Human Race Sets New Aphasia Center Record

May 11th was a beautiful day for the 4th year of the Aphasia Center's participation in the Human Race. More than 60 individuals walked, rolled, or ran the race route at the Lafayette reservoir. The best news was that $8,000 was raised to support program services at the Aphasia Center of California--an all time Aphasia Center record!!

Three Aphasia Center members raised more than $1,000 each for the ACC: Jim Santanna, Philip Tien, and George Yee! And Judi Briano received donations from more than 40 different people! A drawing for restaurant and merchant gift certificates was held for those participants who had raised at least $150 for the Aphasia Center.

Please join us in giving your business to the following companies that generously contributed gift certificates: Albertson's--Montclair (Oakland), Compadres Restaurant--Oakland, C-Ports Café--Oakland, Downtown Restaurant--Berkeley, Glenview Florist, Infinity Salon--Lafayette, Italian Color's Restaurant--Oakland, La Strada Restaurant--San Pablo, Michael's Ristorante--Moraga, Noah's Bagels--Montclair (Oakland), Pastino's Restaurant--Oakland, Safeway--Oakland, Sergio's Trattoria--Oakland, Tachibana Sushi--Oakland, Terzetto Cuisine--Moraga, Trader Joe's--Lafayette, Ultimate Grounds--Oakland, Uncle Chung's Szechuan Restaurant--Pinole, and Zatis Restaurant--Oakland.

The lucky drawing winners were: Sally & Miguel Camacho, Susie Altaffer, Diana Sullivan, Judi Briano, Grace Palmer, George Yee, Dottie & Ed Crafts, Jim Santanna, Jim Dodge, Sid Dommes, Marv Gerber, Don Rasmussen, Philip Tien, Pat Springer and David Rose.

A big thanks to the following event volunteers who helped things run so smoothly: Ellen Bernstein-Ellis, Sue Ewing, Roberta Elman, Enid Meyer, Sid Dommes, Steve Fry, Tracy Green, Prudence Ashley, Carol Sommers, Mary Jane & Rich Laufenberg, and KayLynn Neal.

Finally, a most special thanks to every single Human Race donor: the financial support you have provided the Aphasia Center is improving the lives of people living with aphasia.
