Upcoming server relocation
The server will be relocated to a new datacenter late in the week of July 9th, necessating some periods of downtime that could last several hours.
The server known as willers is currently hosted at a data center in downtown San Jose, CA. It will be moved to a data center in Santa Clara, CA sometime between July 12th and July 14th. This will create some periods of downtime, and some could last several hours. We will try to give as much advance notice as possible, but there may be unexpected shutdowns with just a few minutes' notice.
As part of the move, we will replace the motherboard with one donated by a fellow employees.org user. The current hardware has a single 1.8 GHz CPU and 1GB of RAM, the new hardware has two dual core Xeon processors and 2GB of RAM, so we should see improved system response. We will run the current kernel, which does not have multiprocessor support, for about a week after the move. If the system remains reliable, we will rebuild the kernel to add SMP support.
The IP addresses (both IPv4 and IPv6) will change during the move, though this should not have any impact as long as you always use the FQDN rather than hardcoding IP addresses.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns regarding this move.
