Setting up IMAPS in Pine mail on Unix

This document describes how to configure the Pine mail client on Unix OS's
to speak to the Employees.org mail servers remotely. This configuration
is NOT necessary to use Pine locally on Willers.

First off, your version of Pine must be SSL capable. I think around v4.20 and
later, provided it is compiled and linked with SSL, will work.

  • Start Pine.
  • From the Main Menu, Select "Setup" by hitting S
  • From the Setup Menu, Select "Config" by hitting C
  • In the SETUP CONFIGURATION menu, set "user-domain" to employees.org
  • set "smtp-server" to mail.employees.org
  • set "inbox-path" to {mail.employees.org/ssl/novalidate-cert}INBOX

The "/novalidate-cert" switch stops the mail client from nagging that it doesn't know the Certificate Authority for our IMAP SSL certificate. You can eliminate the "/novalidate-cert" if you add the IMAP SSL Certificate into your systems SSL root Certificate Authority store. How to do this is particular to each machines operating system and compile-time decisions.

  • Type E to "Exit Setup". This brings you back to the main menu.

You are now ready to start using Pine remotely.
