Setting up IMAPS on Apple Mail
- Launch the Mail app by clicking on the icon in the Taskbar or in the /Applications directory.
- Select "Mail=>Preferences" from the Menu Bar.
- Click on Accounts
- Click the + (Plus) button on the lower left corner to add a new account.
- Change the "Account Type:" value to IMAP
- Set the "Description:" field to Employees.Org
- Set the "Email Address:" field to your your employees.org E-mail address.
- Type your real name in the "Full Name:" field.
- Set the "Incoming Mail Server:" field to mail.employees.org
- Set the "User Name:" field to your Employees.org login username.
- Set the "Password:" field to your Employees.org login password.
- Click on the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):" field and select Add Server... This will bring up a new dialog box labelled "SMTP Server Options".
- Set the "Outgoing Mail Server:" field to mail.employees.org
- Click the "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" checkbox.
- In the "Authentication:" dropbox, select "Password"
- Set the "User Name:" field to your Employees.org login username.
- Set the "Password:" field to your Employees.org login password.
- If you want to use SMTPS, set the "Server port:" to "465". If you want to use SMTP with STARTTLS, set the port to either "587", "25", or "1025". Depending on what your ISP blocks, "25" might not work, so try these in the order given here until you are able to send mail.
- Click the OK button to close the "SMTP Server Options" dialog box. This will bring you back to the "Accounts" dialog box.
- Click on "Advanced" in the set of 3 buttons near the stop of the dialog.
- At the bottom of the dialog box, set "Authentication:" to Password
- Right above that, click the Use SSL button. This should cause the "Port:" field to automatically change to 993.
- Right above that, change the "IMAP Path Prefix:" field to Mail.
- Click the red "X" in the upper left cornder. You will now see a dialog box asking if you want to save your changes. Click on the Save button. We are done making changes on the Mac.
- Log into a shell account on Willers.Employees.org and create an empty directory named "Mail" in your home directory. Your IMAP mail will be saved in this directory.
