Know the Warning Signs of Strokes
  • Sudden numbness, weakness, or paralysis in face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.

  • Sudden blurred or decreased vision in one or both eyes.

  • Sudden confusion, difficulty speaking, or understanding simple statements.

  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.

  • Sudden severe headache with no known cause--often described as the "worst headache ever."

STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY...

CALL 911 if you have any of these symptoms. Treatment can be more effective if given quickly--every minute counts. Sometimes symptoms appear for a short time and then disappear. You still need to call 911 as these TIAs (transient ischemic attacks) are warnings that a full stroke may soon follow.
