Philanthropic Shopping :

Everybody shops. Books, CDs, clothes, food, sports gear, jewelry, toiletries, flowers, computers, pet food, children's toys, gifts… In fact, people shop a lot. Try and count how many trips you've made to the pharmacy in the past month. Or how often you've needed to buy birthday, wedding or anniversary gifts for family and friends.

Think of how much money could go to the Aphasia Center of California if supporters did some or all of their shopping online at www.iGive.com/ACC where up to 25% of every purchase is donated to the Aphasia Center of California. At iGive.com, membership is free and shopping is easy! In fact, it's so simple you won't even notice how much money you're raising for the Aphasia Center because there is no extra cost or obligation to you! So hurry up and visit the Mall at iGive.com, where you can shop at over 240 merchants, including Amazon.com, CDNow, Lands' End, Gap.com, PETsMART, Barnes and Noble and more to help the Aphasia Center at the same time!

Marie Pastrick Memorial Videotape Library

Marie Pastrick lost her longtime struggle with complications from diabetes last year. Marie was an avid movie fan and owned an impressive collection of videotapes. Marie bequeathed this collection to the Aphasia Center of California to create a videotape library for Aphasia Center members to use. Any member of the Aphasia Center is eligible to borrow videotapes from the library.

These data are being used by World Health Organization researchers in developing the quality of life measure.

Human Race 2001

May 12th, 2001 marked the third year that the Aphasia Center of California participated in the Human Race, a walk and roll held for non-profit organizations at the Lafayette Reservoir. Sixty-five Aphasia Center participants, family members and friends helped to raise more than $7,000 for the ACC at this event.

In order to raise awareness of aphasia, we walked with a big banner and brought plenty of information about aphasia to distribute. A drawing was held for those who raised the most for the Aphasia Center. ACC members Jim Pugh (and family) and Jim Santanna (and family) both raised more than $1,000 each for the ACC. Thank you for your dedication to the ACC!! And Judi Briano raised money from 38 people (the most of any participant) for the Aphasia Center!

Human Race drawing prizes were donated from the following companies: Pastino's, Glenview Florist, Trader Joe's, Tachibana Restaurant, La Peluqueria, Noah's Bagels, Basil Leaf Care, Albertson's, Italian Colors Restaurant, Compadres Restaurant, Sergio's Trattoria and Zatis Restaurant. Thank you to all of the participants, individual donors, organizations, and event day volunteers for making the event a success!! Thanks to the money raised at the Human Race, the Aphasia Center of California is providing more programs and services to those affected by aphasia.
