- Our current services include nine weekly communication
treatment groups, weekly Book Connection (reading and writing)
groups, individual speech-language pathology sessions, a quarterly
educational series on stroke, and a caregiver's group. All Aphasia
Center treatment is conducted by highly experienced and licensed
speech-language pathologists.
- We offer a fitness/relaxation class and an art
class at no charge to Aphasia Center of California participants.
These recreational classes are facilitated by Adult Education
instructors.
- Last year we provided more than 4,600 visits
to individuals with aphasia, their family members, and friends.
- We are dedicated to providing long-term, affordable
services for those with aphasia. We offer a sliding fee scale
for those with reduced incomes.
- We provide community outreach, including information
regarding available services for those affected by aphasia, as
well as education and training for both individuals and organizations.
- Our group communication treatment provides an
innovative and cost-effective way for those with aphasia and their
families to continue receiving treatment beyond the initial period
following stroke.
- Our clinical research studies have demonstrated
that individuals who receive group communication treatment show
significant improvement in their communication skills and psychosocial
functioning.
- Many individuals who participated in our programs
are going outside of their homes independently and re-entering
the community for the first time since their stroke, even many
years later.
