Pickup Volleyball Application Form

If you wish to participate in pickup indoor volleyball during the year and play with fellow Newbridge employees and friends, please fill the following application as accurately as you can. I will take the first 35-40 players, after that, you will be placed on a spare list in case we get drop outs during the year. Spares do not count as part of the 35-40 count.

If you decide later that you cannot participate, please contact me asap so I can remove your name off the list. It is essential for me to have an accurate head count.

The schedule is as follows:

Dates September 15, 1998 - April 20, 1999
Day Tuesdays
Exceptions Due to school and public holidays, Dec 8, Dec 22, Dec 29, Jan 26, and Mar 16 are not available.
Time 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Location Sir Guy Carleton
Address 55 Centrepointe Drive

The date and time are confirmed. The estimated cost is approximately $35 for Social Club Members and $45 for Non-Social Club members for the whole season. The cost will be determined once I get an accurate head count, an accurate estimate of funds provided by the social club, and the cost of renting a gym for the year 1998-99. You will be required to pay for the whole season. This makes it easier for myself to organize this activity.

Preference is given to the participants of last year. This is pickup volleyball, therefore I will not be organizing formal teams and competitions. However, this has proven successful in the past as the teams have been created informally at the gym and has provided a lot of successful and fun games.

If you cannot attend on a regular basis, you can still sign up as a spare, and you will pay a $5 drop in charge each time you come. In the sign up form, indicate that you are a Spare in the phone number field. I expect people who sign up to attend on a regular basis, i.e. at least 75% of the time, as this is a team sport and we count on your participation.

Expectations from Participants:

  • As a participant, you are expected to help in the setup and teardown of the nets. Please arrive no later than 18:00 to help setup. Lets max game time.
  • Court A is designated as the Competitive court, and Court B is designated as the Intramural court. Spiking and three volley minimums are expected in Court A. It is at the discretion of the participants in Court B to allow spiking and other advanced volleyball strategies.
  • Depending on the mix of players that day, there can be no court distinction. Each team will decide how they want to play. It is difficult to get an even number of Intramural players and Competitive players, such that we can easily divide the courts.
  • To maintain an enjoyable game level for the participants, if you wish to play competitive, please use Court A. If you are a beginner, or wish to play intramural, then use Court B. In case attendance is poor, exceptions are made.
  • If you wish to improve your skills and play in Court A, it is acceptable as long as you realize spiking is allowed.
  • Per team, there will be a maximum of two to three spares. From experience last year, the overbooking did not present a problem at all. Infact, we were short players more than anything.
  • If you do not show up to four sessions in a row, you will be considered out of the league, and will be replaced by someone on the waiting list. Depending on this year's funding, attendance throughout the year may be rewarded by a partial re-imbusement of your membership.
