Saturday February 15, 2003 - Bus, Planes and more Planes

As usual I took the bus to the light rail to go to the airport (SJC).  But as I seldom take the light rail, I didn't realize they were doing some construction work on the track.  So instead of light rail, it was another bus.  No big deal,  but it was rather unexpected.

Monday (Feb 17) is President's day, so I was surprise to find the airport so empty at the beginning of a long weekend (perhaps the rush already happened on Friday) or maybe because it was only around 7:30  am when I got there.  Thanks to my complimentary "Gold" elite status on Aadvantage, I breezed through the checkin line and the security line.  I only had carry on luggage anyways.

First off, American Airlines flight 1234 (I am not making up the flight number) from SJC to ORD.  It's the same old American Airlines domestic flight, though the advantage of being an "elite" member is the seat next to me is left empy (if the plane isn't fully booked).  It was the usual, pick up a "Bistro Bag" on your way onto the plane.    I am frankly getting sick of the darn Purdue Turkey sandwiches, and the carrot sticks tasted funny.

The movie was Solaris (which George Clooney), which wasn't terribly interesting.. I ended up falling asleep.  Flight arrived a bit early, so I had time to visit the usual shops at ORD, where I got a magazine and water.. and the cashier forced every customer to take free samples of Motrin (did they know something about the flights that we don't?).

Okay off it was to flight 86 from ORD to LHR.   First time I have ever flown to LHR, and American Airlines seems to be using new 777's, the ones with personal inseat TV's even in coach, a nice surprise.  I particulary enjoy the channel that shows the flight progress.  Anyways,  I swear the choice for dinner was the exact choices I had the last time I flew from CDG to BOS, it was either Chicken and Pasta, or Beef.  Choice the Beef, because I learned a while ago to avoid any pasta choices on American Airlines.  Watch Sweet Home Alabama, and some miscellaneous documentary on Monaco.
