To get started we interviewed several architects and
designers, and selected Steve Aced of "The Remodeling Project" to do the
design and help us get construction bids.
The initial phase of the design
involved developing some sketches of the floor plan and exterior elevations.
Some of Steve's sketches are shown below.
As of October 2005 we have completed planning and have
submitted plans to the city for approval.

Plot Plan
The shaded areas indicate the added house footprint surrounding the old house floor plan. It also shows the plans for driveway, pathway to front door and patio, as well as setback lines and trees. |

Front Elevation
This is the front of the house facing Lois Avenue. The half-timbers on the walls give the house a Tudor style, with brickword filling in the space between the timbers. |

Side Elevation

The exterior shows stone facing on the turret and in
front of the kitchen. The roof over the office space on the right is
slightly altered.

Alternate Exterior
|
|
|
Here are some new exterior sketches. Our preference is
the first one, which Steve described as "French Eclectic" or "Norman
Cottage". The large porch is gone and is now covered by a turret. The office
next to the den is moved back a few feet to give the graduated look on the
right hand side. The roof cuts down through the ceiling for a low finish, so
the sitting room and kitchen windows cut up into the roof. We love this
look!
The alternate exterior is shown as a more economical
option. We also like this one.
Kitchen Designs from Quesco
The following are some 3D views of the kitchen,
including Sue's ideas for the large island. The island has a main section
with a vegetable sink and a seating area. There is a lower section that will
be close to the dining table for serving.

Exterior

The initial exterior design was for a ranch style with
a large front porch. This seemed like a lot of wasted space so we wanted to
look at other options.
