We went to Israel! On relatively short notice, I had a business
trip to Israel that came up, and I was able to bring Lonni and Rebecca
along with me. Unfortunately, the trip was only one week in
duration,
but we were able to hit at least some of the spots that we saw 17 years
ago when Lonni and I lived in Israel for a year ('83-'84). I have
lots of pictures from the trip that I'll put up on the web in a nice
easy
format, but in the mean time you can sort through this directory: -->Israel

Rebecca's quite the world traveler, isn't she!

Here's a picture I took with our new Sony digital video camera.
I'm hooked on the technology! Basically, I can shoot a whole
scene
and view it frame-by-frame until I find the exact photo I want, and
upload
only that to the computer. The above picture is an example of
this.
Rebecca was playing with the sand on the beach at Natural Bridges State
Park (Santa Cruz) while the sun was setting behind her. She's
talking
more and more (her first 4 syllable word -- Abalone). I hope to
soon
get some sound files of her talking up on the web.

Rebecca is now 15 months old. She's growing quickly, and now
has enough hair that she doesn't often get mistaken for a boy. It
also helps that Mom likes to dress her in dresses.
She's running around alot now, and even talking quite a bit.
Along
with the usual mommy and daddy she says dog, bee, ball, binky
and milo (our cats), up, down, milk, nose, eye, baby, Baba (what
she
calls herself), no (rapidly becoming one of her favorite words), yes
(less
often spoken), and many more words. She also knows an impressive
number of sign language words: more, eat, frog, please, thank
you,
icecream, and love. She's become quite the parrot -- she's
keeping
us entertained every day.

Today is Rebecca's 9 month birthday. It's funny to think how
our lives have changed in 9 short (long?) months. To celebrate,
we
got rebecca a piano
of her own, just her size. I guess you could say it is a baby
baby
grand. She has wasted no time in figuring out how to play
it.
We'll let her tinker on it for a while, then figure out when to start
formal
lessons. I'm thinking she probably should be at least 1 year
old.

Rebecca is now about one week away from being 9 months old. Our
life with her is much different than it used to be. She's
crawling
quite fast now, and very stable pulling herself up to standing.
Once
she stood up on her own, in the middle of the rug, without holding on
to
anything, for about 20 seconds. She was engrossed in a book at
the
time, and perhaps didn't even realize what she was doing. She
hasn't
done it since, though she is starting to let go of what ever she is
holding
onto while standing, totter for a bit, then sit down. We expect
her
to begin trying to walk on her own very soon.

Tomorrow (4/8/99) Rebecca will be 8 months old!
She's changing faster than we ever thought she would. Last month
she started crawling, slowly at first. The three of us just came
back from a vacation in Paris/Brussels and then Colorado where Rebecca
developed her crawling and pulling-up skills into an art form.
She's
now quite able to keep both of her parents quite active running after
her.
Good thing she's so cute or I'm not sure if it would be worth it.
We spent a week last month in Paris. We stayed in a very nice, quiet hotel called Hotel Colbert in the Latin Quarter of the Left Bank. We had a chance to eat very good food, see some fine art, and visit with some of Lonni's relatives. Rebecca especially liked the Louvre, and in specific the collection of classical sculptures. A girl after my own heart. Being so young, she was a remarkably good travel companion, even on the 11 hour flight from S.F. to Paris, non-stop!
Click here for some of her (and us), including pictures from the trip. Be sure to check out the Picture Gallery for more.
Also, hear RebeccaLilyGoldman 's name in LONGTALK©
The above sound files require the
RealPlayer,
get it here.
My basic philosophy: It's good not to take yourself too seriously.
