GBTC's Sherita Williams, Sean Furey Compete at US Nationals
Indianapolis, Indiana - Thursday June 21 2007 - Both Sherita Williams and Sean Furey will compete in their respective events. Sherita will open the day at 6:20pm in the first of two flights of the triple jump in an attempt to make the top 8 to enter the finals to follow immediately aftewards. Likewise, Sean Furey looks to crack the top 8 in the javelin throw where he is scheduled to be in the first of two flights set to go off at 7:00pm.
Some of you may have noticed last summer's GBTC member, Anna Willard as the top seed in the 3000m steeplechase. She is the real deal, as she took part in breaking 3 collegiate records this year at Michigan including the steeple she is entered in (at 9:38.08). With her collegiate eligibility finally used up, it is no surprise that Nike scooped her up. Her event trial is scheduled for 4:15pm Thursday, in the second of two sections, where they take top 4 in each section plus the next 6 best times overall to the final.
In the high jump, Dan Olson just missed making the trip having a provisional qualifying mark of 2.21 meters, just 1cm away from an auto qualifier. USATF does not look to have taken anyone with provisional marks, this would include Sherita's long jump mark of 6.37 meters, she just 3cm off of an auto qualifier, and Rory Quiller (GBTC member Ryan's brother) at 5.51 meters in the pole vault. In the decathlon, Matt Chisam was just a few points away from the provisional 7550 points needed.
