History
I bought this Scout in 9/94 for $1500. The guy I bought from was a
college student
who was given the truck by a neighbor
The Scout had been sitting in a backyard for 2-3 years, and
his plan was to get it running just enough to use it as a beater for
the summer. He replaced a lot of the rusted out floor by rivetting in
some new sheet metal. Here are some pictures
he took while working on it. Considering how rusted out it was,
and that it was just supposed to last him a summer, he did a decent job
on the body. He even rivetted patches over all the holes in the
body panel (front and rear fenders, mostly) given the truck an almost
Frankenstien quality.
Unfortunately, he did a half-assed job on the engine (which led me
on one hell of a ride went the accelerator got stuck to the floor on
the highway) and I had to have some new lifters put in before I could
get it to run reliably. The electrical system was also screwed.
I had head lights, and tail lights, and nothing else. So
it took me about
2 months to get it on the road. Oh, and I also had to replace the
every part of the brake system, except for the master cylinder, which
cost about the same as what I paid for the truck.
I also had to replace the hubs in early '95 because the casing
on the original "Lock-o-matic" hubs was cracking. Unfortunately
I couldn't find new "Lock-o-matics", so they got replaced with
with standard manual locking hubs.
