Nerja

Nerja is a small resort town on Spain's Costa Del Sol. It's the perfect place to spend a few days wandering the narrow streets, hanging out at the beach or enjoying one of the many restaurants throughout the town.
Nerja is a popular destination for the UK as well as other Northern European countries. Because of this you will find menus in English, German and French in addition to Spanish and most people in the restaurants and hotels will speak English.
Some of the nearby attractions to Nerja include the whitewashed hill town of Frigiliana and the caves of Nerja that boast the world's largest stalagtight.
When in Nerja you can't possibly miss the ocean. If you do you've done something wrong since the town is bordered by it. There are many beautiful beaches in Nerja although the water seems to be a bit colder than what you will find on the Costa Blanca (up north). None the less the beaches and the views of the ocean from various spots in Nerja can't be missed I was amazed at how this little town came alive at night. As you walk around the day the streets are marginally filled with people. As the afternoon siesta approaches things start to close down a bit and people head off to the beaches and back to the hotels to nap. As the evening and dinner hours approach the people come out to roam the streets looking for places to eat and drink. The plaza at the Balcon de Europa is bustling with people at midnight and is the perfect place to people watch, look at the moon over the ocean or enjoy a late night ice cream. Stop in to the Oficina de Turismo de Nerja for local info on what to do in and around Nerja. This small office located just off the the square at the Balcon de Europa is full of information from a city map to directions to local attractions and they can also help with booking tickets to one of the many summer concerts in the Nerja Caves.

Enjoy a casual dinner on a rooftop at the Restaurante Sevillano. We selected this restaurant over the dozens of other choices because they happened to have tomato soup on the menu which turned out to be very good. Restaurante Sevillano offers street side seating in addition to two floors of indoor seating and a rooftop patio. The restaurant is fairly small but they're able to pack visitors in. They offer an "early bird" special (as many of the local restaurants do) that is about €20 and comes with a starter, main course, desert and a bottle of wine. It's a great deal but only valid until about 8:30p. Service is friendly and you're likely to find at least one of the wait staff speaking English if you don't speak Spanish. English menus are also available.
The hake in champagne sauce was very good and highly recommended. For a starter we had the tomato soup which had a subtle hint of bell pepper . We also enjoyed a bottle of wine from their decent wine list. We topped it off with the fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

Palacio del Pollo Asado
Looking for something to bring down to the beach for a picnic? Want a good hot meal but don't want to spend a lot of euros? If this is the case make a trip to Palacio del Pollo Asado for a fresh hot roasted chicken meal. For just €9 you can get a whole fresh roast chicken right off of the spit in addition to home made potatoes and dipping sauce (ali-oli or hot and spicy). For a bit more you can add a cold beer or soda from their refrigerator. There also sell other variations on the meal as well as 1/2 chickens all for very reasonable prices. This was a great meal to take back to our hotel balcony overlooking the ocean.
