Prague
I've been to Prague twice now and it's one of my favorite cities to visit. Prague is relatively inexpensive, the people are friendly, the food is good and it has just enough Eastern European charm and Western European influence to make it comfortable yet different and exciting.

Hotel
Salvator ***
This 30 room hotel is just a few minutes walk from the old town square and the heart of old Prague. Simple rooms with TV and bathroom in the room. Our TV had no remote so there was no way to change the volume. The room had no phone but there was a public phone available just steps away from the hotel door. In addition to being close to the Old Town Square, Hotel Salvator is near public transportation, a shopping mall and a large grocery store which turned out to be very handy for a few cheap lunches. A nice feature of this hotel is that they will send a taxi to pick you up at the train station or airport if you arrange it beforehand. The train station option will cost you about 250 crowns or $7 and is well worth the price so you don't have to hunt around for the hotel on your own. A driver was waiting for us when we steeped off the train. He helped us with our bags and whisked us off to his car through the crowds of people trying to entice you to stay in their apartment or hotel. You will be asked to pay your bill in full with cash at check in so be prepared. There are at least 3 different money machines within 5 minutes walking distance of the hotel so if you don't have the funds the hotel can hold your bags while you go to the bank. A double room was 2600 crowns when I was there in 2001. Check the web site for current prices. |

Whenever I go to a different country I always like to go shopping and Tesco was the perfect experience for me. We don't have Tesco here in the States but it is very similar to WalMart with a selection of everything from food to clothes to household goods. If you need to pick up something that you happened to forget or something that you just ran out of, this is the place to go. Even if you don't need anything this is a fun place to kind of blend in for a bit and hang out with the locals as they shop for deodorant and underwear. |
