Highly intelligent and quick-witted, Alphonse is a specialist in the history and languages of the Old World. He is generally a patient and kind man, but once his anger is stirred, he can turn his sharp wit into a deadly weapon. As a young man, he was a much-in-demand handsome lawyer for the wealthy merchants of Altdorf (and their daughters). However, his anger-fanned acid tongue evenutally made powerful enemies, forcing him to flee society and live as an outlaw for several years. Proud, but ultimately practical, Herr Nitpicker took advantage of the changing of the guard after the Civil War to make amends and return to society, though he lost his license to practice law and still may not return to Altdorf. Nevertheless, he lifted himself up by his bootstraps and hired on as a adjunct history instructor for Die Hochschule Des Herzogs in Nuln. Soon, he had impressed his superiors enough to earn tenure and he had formed some important contacts within the noble classes. One such contact, the Baronet von Mossbacher, an Ostlander nobleman who took history classes from Herr Nitpicker at the college, invited Alphonse to his home to tutor his children. Alphonse accepted the position and has been in Ostland for almost a year now. A Little HistoryAlphonse Nitpicker first appeared on the WFRP Mailing List many years ago with his Nitpicker's Guide to Warhammer Obscura. Herr Nitpicker came in contact with me through, what he calls, Eine Sehr Ungerade Übereinstimmung, which I think means Something Really Weird. I can only describe it as like a telephone call without a telephone. We spent many months just overcoming basic communication problems: I had to not only learn Reikspiel, but endure Herr Nitpicker's somewhat inflated and pompous Nulner dialect. Fortunately, Herr Nitpicker was a quicker study than I; his English is much better than my Reikspiel. When he learned of my interest in the Old World -- which by the way, is not what Herr Nitpicker calls it. To him, the Old World simply is Die Welt.Anyway, when he learned of my interest in Die Welt, our conversations quickly turned to many arcane and obscure subjects. I've had the benefit of corresponding with -- and sometimes speaking with -- several significant figures of the Todbringer Empire. For example, I've had the pleasure of "meeting" Herr Wolfe Von Jager, the Emperor's brother-in-law and one of the heroes who helped Emperor Todbringer locate Sigmar's Hammer and win the recent Civil War. When I first met Herr Nitpicker, he had recently fled from Altdorf to his native Nuln. As a young man, he graduated from H.R. Pumpelgroover's School of Law in Talabheim. He spent several years practicing law in Altdorf before circumstances forced him to return to his home city of Nuln. Since then, he has moved from Nuln to Ostland to tutor the children of the Baronet von Mossbacher of Bugeldorf. Although I fear he does not enjoy his tutoring responsibilities, he has made the acquaintance of Frauline Zehenkraus, the Baronet's cook, who has in her possession a copy of the Puddlefoot Manuscripts which describe the history, politics and life in the Moot in great detail. I hope to continue my relationship with Herr Nitpicker for a long time. |
