Handy Websites for WFRP

By Anthony Ragan

I was taking a break here at work and started looking for web sites related to 16th century Germany. While I didn't find one as good as Le Poulet Gauche (for 16th century France: http://www.lepg.org/), I found several that gave information about the Landsknechts, the famed mercenaries founded by Emperor Maximilian in the late 15th century. Since they're part of the period on which WFRP is based, I thought I'd pass these along.

Das Teufels Alpdrücken Fähnleîn - living history unit specializing in the portrayal of 16th century (circa. 1529) Landsknechts.

Des Schloß von Ravensburg - information on Landsknecht history for the reenactor.

http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Strasse/9298/

Landsknecht WebRing - dedicated to all the Landsknechts out there.

http://www.pipcom.com/~tempus/landsknecht/webring.html

Landsknecht.com (Nice illustrations of period woodcuts!)

http://www.landsknecht.com/

Meister Modius von Mergentheim - virtual tour of a German Castle of the 16th Century and the Landsknecht tradition. (Very interesting tour, though some of the decorations look rococco to this untrained eye)

http://www.cityscope.net/~modius/

Society of Former Landsknechte - social and historical association that organizes a variety of outings, events, and festivals in the Landsknetche tradition. (In German and English)

Todesengel Fähnlein - St. Maximilian Landsknecht - reenactment guild that portrays an historical, but theatrical, representation of Landsknecht c. 1500-1550.
