The WFRP Mailing List Posting Guidelines
Members of the list should restrict their posts to topics of interest to
the rest of the WFRP community.
All posts should have a topic clearly stated in the subject. It is also
good practice to insert an abstract at the top of your post if your
message is long or complex.
The preferred topics of conversation on the WFRP list are (in order):
- Original ideas which develop, refine, or expand the background of the
Old World beyond previously printed materials, or Op-Ed pieces on
previously printed materials.
Apropos: Extremely Appropriate
Examples:
- The Politics of the City of Praag
- The Practices and Rituals of the Cult of Shallya
- Life in a Halfling Hobble
- The Types of Necromancers in the Old World
- The Dialects of the Upper Reik
- Ongoing discussions of such topics
- Reviews or commentaries on published Old World/WFRP materials, such
as adventures or websites.
Apropos: Appropriate
Examples:
- A review of "Shadows of Bogenhafen"
- A commentary on the use of Necromancers in "Lichemaster"
- A commentary on the usefulness of the WFB Brettonnia book in WFRP
- A critique of material posted to the WFRP list
- The dissemination of general information useful to all WFRP players.
Apropos: Useful
Examples:
- The status of WFRP publications
- The location of WFRP websites
- WFRP convention information
- Adventures, rules, or campaign-specific information. In general, this
class of material is often more useful when formatted and posted on a
website.
Apropos: Somewhat Useful
Examples:
- Rules for creating magic items
- "What My Group Did Last Week" letters
- New combat systems
- The Great Coach Robbery Adventure
- "What is the Rule for...?" questions
- General gaming or role-playing information.
Apropos: Marginally Useful
Examples:
- Posts about other role-playing games
- Posts about WFB
Topics not covered by the above list should rarely or never appear on
the list. Such topics are simply not apropos to WFRP and the Old World.
If you frequently begin or extend conversations about off-topic
subjects, you will dilute the utility of the WFRP list and run the risk
of being summarily unsubscribed.
Only members can successfully post to the WFRP list. If you attempt to
post from an address not in the subscribers list, the list software will
not deliver your message. The address you post from must exactly match
the address in the subscribers list.
Golden Replies
List members should only reply to the list when they have something
original to say. Avoid sending "Me, too!" or "High-five!" one-liner
posts to the list. The best rule of thumb for replies is:
The Golden Rule of Replies
If you quote more than you write, then perhaps your reply isn't that useful.
Quote less or don't reply.
