Anthology of Young Writer’s Workshop

Fourth Grade GATE Class, Marguerite Hahn School, 2002

Epilogue

Children grow up fast. One day they are no bigger than a loaf of bread and can be carried in one arm, the other they are shoulder high. I am sure that next time I check they will be sixteen and demanding their own car. This anthology is an attempt to capture the fleeing moments of childhood, like a snapshot. A snapshot of what they think, how they write, what they view the world. Nothing is more revealing than children's own writings. Sure, there will be next year and another grade. But they only live fourth grade once. Like an ancient Chinese scholar had said: “The river remains the same, but the water is different every day.”

The anthology is a collection of writing by fourth grade GATE students in Hahn school. It contains stories, poems, essays and fictions. It not only shows their talents and passions for writing, but also provides a rare glimpse into the inner world of the 9-10 year olds. The stories may be a bit childish, the sentences may be a little clumsy, but these are their own words. I knew this world belongs to them and their time will come, now I have heard their voice -- loud and clear.
