Newbery award is only for American authors. You are not going to find the British authors on this list. And UK has some of the best authors in children literature. The oldest and most prestigious award for children literature in UK is Carnegie medal. Established 1937. Presented annually to an outstanding book published in the United Kingdom. Initially limited to English writers whose books were published in England, but since 1969 any book written in English and published first, or concurrently, in the United Kingdom has been eligible.
You can find some of the famous names such as J.K.Rowling (Harry Potter), Philip Pullman (Golden Compass, etc), C.S Lewis (Chronicle of Nania), Mary Norton (Borrowers), etc.
A shadowing schemefor
children and young people accompanies the Awards. Over 800 schools and
public library reading groups are registered to take part and read the
shortlisted titles to compare their opinions with the judges. A specially
designed Web site has been created to offer help and support and includes
a
'postroom' section
for children to submit reviews of the shortlisted titles.
