Some books are loved by kids of both genders. However, some others clearly have gender preferences. This book list includes some award winners and classic works in which females are main characters or involves in complex relationship situation. Girls tend to like these books more. However, boys should be encouraged to read some of the girlish book. There used to the time that there were few female role models in the children books. Females are either auxiliary figures or weak figures who were waiting for someone to transform their lives (e.g., Cinderella). This has changed greatly in last 20 years. You can now find many books featuring strong and confident girl/woman as main character.
