Rachel and her friends were so excited about the carnival that was coming to their town. Rachel is a short ten-year-old girl with curly blonde hair. Her best friends are Natasha and Ashley. Ashley is a tall ten year old girl with straight dark brown hair, and Natasha is a medium sized ten year old girl with dirty blonde hair. They all live in Rohnert Park where nothing really exciting ever happens. But in twelve days a real carnival with rides and everything was coming to their school for the last day of school. They all go to Riverside Elementary and are in Mrs. Baker’s fourth grade class.

Natasha and Ashley were both over at Rachel’s when they started discussing the carnival. Rachel and Natasha had never been to a carnival before and didn’t know what to expect. Ashley was the only one that had gone to one before so she filled Rachel and Natasha in on what there is. “There are rides, games, food, and prizes!” said Ashley. “Wow” Natasha said. “I can’t wait!” said Rachel. They got even more excited. “What are your favorite rides Ashley?” asked Rachel. “Ummmmm I would have to say the roller coasters and the Ferris Wheel are my favorites.” “What’s it like to go on a roller coaster?” asked Rachel. “It’s a blast you scream and you go really fast and sometimes you even go upside down!” replied Ashley. After a while Ashley and Natasha had to go home. At school the next day the carnival was the only thing the kids were talking about. Even the teachers were excited about it. The carnival was going to be the biggest thing that has ever happened in Rohnert Park. “Rachel, Natasha,” called Ashley. The two girls ran over to her. “Guess what I just heard about the carnival?” “What?” Rachel said. “I hear that at the carnival there is going to be a really creepy haunted house, ” said Ashley. “Cool!” Natasha said. I’ve never been in a real haunted house before! “I have” said Rachel. “When?” asked Ashley. When I was four but I don’t remember it very well. “Well at least you know that much about a carnival” Ashley said.

“Come on you guys,” said Rachel My mom, we can go check out the carnival and see how it’s coming along. “But I thought you said that they wouldn’t start working on it until the weekend it’s only Thursday” Natasha said. “I know but they canceled tomorrow’s school so that they can have enough time to work on it” said Rachel. “ Well okay then lets go,” said Ashley. “Wait cried Natasha, we have to call our mom’s to see if we can go first.” “Alright but hurry” said Rachel “it’s getting late. “Okay come on Ashley let’s go call them,” said Natasha.

The girls walked to the carnival. “Wow!” said Ashley they’ve been working hard, the Ferris Wheel is already up.”  “Look over here you guys they have some bumper cars here to!” said Rachel. The girls stayed at the carnival until it was dark. “Well now that we’ve seen it I think we should go home because it’s getting late and my mom probably already has dinner on the table” Ashley said. “Good idea” Natasha said “let’s go.” The girls walked to Rachel’s house and Rachel’s mom took Ashley and Natasha home.

The days went by as everyone waited for the day to come when the carnival would be ready. Finally the day came. That morning the girls were so excited as they stood in line waiting for the teacher. “Oh my gosh!” cried Ashley “the carnival is finally here, look at it, it’s huge!” “I know, it’s going to be so much fun!” “Yes! the teacher is coming we can go.” The girls threw their back backs on the ground and ran towards all of the rides with everyone else. “Which ride should we go on first?” asked Natasha. “We should definitely go on the roller coaster first,” cried Ashley. “Okay lets go!” They ran in line and got on the roller coaster. At first Natasha and Rachel were really scared but after a while they were having a lot of fun. Suddenly right when the roller coaster train was going up a really, really steep hill the roller coaster got stuck and couldn’t move! “AHHHHHH!” Screamed the girls. “What are we going to do Ashley?” yelled Natasha. “I don’t know but hold on.” After one whole hour the roller coaster started up again, and the roller coaster train rolled backwards all the way down to the bottom. All of the kids got off immediately. “ If the controls for the roller coaster were fine then how did the roller coaster break down?” asked Rachel “I don’t know” replied Ashley “but some thing really weird is going on.” “Lets go try the Ferris Wheel” Natasha said. The girls went over to the Ferris Wheel and it was closed because it had gotten stuck to! “Oh no, Ashley is right, something really weird is going on” Thought Rachel. “Let’s get to the bottom of this” Ashley said. “Come on let’s search everywhere for clues.” They searched for three hours until finally they had to rest. They talked about all of the weird things they had seen and heard and tried to piece them together. “ I saw two men wearing all black that were sneaking into the bumper cars!” Rachel said. “And I saw a dusty wrench on the ground” Natasha said. “What did you see Ashley?” “I saw nothing the whole time.” “Well then let’s go to the bumper cars,” Natasha said. They headed towards the bumper cars. When they got there they saw two men dressed in black messing with the controls. They ran out and found one of the security guards and took him to the place where the men were immediately. When the officer tried to hand cuff them they went right through him. They were ghosts!

The girls screamed and ran into the girls’ bathroom and hid. “What are we going to do?” Ashley whispered. “Well we need to think of a plan,” Natasha said.” The girls’ sat and thought for a while. “I’ve got it!” Cried Rachel. “All we have to do is sneak up behind them and put a fabric bag over them.” “But won’t they just go through the bag?” Ashley said. “No because they couldn’t go through their close so they can’t go through fabric” explained Rachel. “ That’s a brilliant plan Rachel!” Natasha said. “And we can use the fabric bags that our teachers gave us to put our prizes in. “Okay lets go get the officer and tell him our plan.” Ashley said. The girls went over to the officer and told him their plan. He agreed to do it but he would capture them because he didn’t want them to get hurt by the ghosts. The officer took the bags and crept up behind the ghosts. He pulled the bags over their heads and Rachel was right, the ghosts couldn’t go the through the bags. The officer took the ghosts away, and who knows what he did with them. All the girls cared about was that the ghosts were gone and they could enjoy the rest of the carnival.
 
 

In the magical land of Carnellius, deep in the Silver Woods, thrived a herd of rainbow unicorns. The Silver Woods had silver-backed trees, with metallic green leaves. The rainbow unicorns ate these leaves, which made them healthy and strong. One day, a baby unicorn was born to the two leaders of the herd, Arabella and Krisna. The unicorn and pegasus named the foal Akara, which meant ‘the strong one’ in their language. However, in a dark lonely cave a green dragon mother named Janeva was nursing her young.  She did have 7 babies, but 6 died. Now this fragile burden of life was precious to the green dragon. The baby drag was greedily sucking dragon’s milk, which was provided to him by his mother. Quick as lightning, with a rush of wind, a blue dragon landed in the cave. He was known as Ranar, Janeva’s mate. “Pa-apa!” squealed Hiori, the blue-green baby dragon. Ranar looked up from his newly caught meal of silver salmon, startled. Janeva snatched one of Ranar’s seven silver salmon, chewed it up, and fed the meal to Hiori. The little dragon devoured it.  He finished with a “me stuffed!” and curled up to sleep on a bed of fresh leaves.

Meanwhile, at the clearing with the rainbow unicorns, Akara was taking her first swim. Swimming was important to the rainbow herd, as they used it to get away from hunters like Scraggle, the ferocious red bear. Scraggle cannot swim because he is a fire bear. His cousin, the gentle Polaris, is a blue water bear. Polaris taught all the unicorns how to swim. Now he was teaching Akara. “Because you are half unicorn and half pegasus, you ought to be strong swimmer.” explained Polaris. The water bear meant that because Akara had strong waterproof swan-like wings, she could use them to propel her forward. Akara jumped into the wide river by the clearing. It was cold! She knew she had to learn, so she started squirming in a shallow part. “That’s not the way,” laughed Polaris. “You’re either treading water, or doggy paddling!”. Akara stopped. She was warm now. Polaris went on. “Ok,” now get into deeper water until your neck is wet.” The pegasus-unicorn obeyed. “And open your wings.” Akara closed her wings and glided smoothly through the water. With the unicorns watching, and her parents at her back, Akara felt proud and happy. At least she could swim. The silvery purple-blue unicorn still did not know what would befall her journey through life.

The next day was another day of learning. Krisna taught Akara how to fly. “Jump off the ground and flap your wings.” Akara flapped and rose off the ground, her father at her side. How good it felt to have the wind play with her mane! Suddenly, she flipped over in the air. Akara neighed piteously in order to get back up. A twinkle in the forest catches her eye. “Dad, waz that?” asks Akara. Krisna looks down. “Sweetie, that’s Janeva, the green mother dragon and her mate Ranar. I see they are fishing. Oh look! There’s their new baby, Hiori. He’s your twin.” Akara interrupts. “Huh?” “Sorry, I mean he’s born on the same day you are.” “ Oh.” Below, the dragons made quite a commotion by the Ivory River. The magical white waters of the river gave it its name. Akara and Krisna hid in the trees, silently watching the dragons. “ Hey Ranar,” yelled Krisna “are you fishing for silver salmon, or tangerine trout?” The blue dragon jumped and answered “Fishing for both. Janeva’s got to dry the fish and store them in our food supply. We’re also trying to teach Hiori how to swim, but nobody has the time. Can Akara?” Krisna had a puzzled look on his face. “Can Akara what?” he asked. “Oh! Why, can Akara swim? She can go with Hiori. We both swim in the same way, you know, we just keep our snouts over water.” explained Ranar. “Well, it’s noses for us.” added Krisna. The pegasus agreed to the plan to teach Hiori how to swim, because once a unicorn or pegasus knows how to swim, they are experts. It’s no wonder a baby unicorn of 1 day old may be an expert by the end of the day. “Also,” added Ranar, “can you give us a hand here, our way to catch fish doesn’t really work.” The dragon was unsuccessfully trying to claw salmon and bite trout. The bite seemed to work better but the shining waters almost blinded the blue dragon. Just then Arabella popped silently out of the woods. “Krisna Unilis, where have you been?” she scolded. Akara saw that Arabella, her mother, was only teasing her father because of a smirking smile. Then Arabella greeted Janeva. “Hello Janeva, how is it going with little Hiori?” asked Arabella. “He is a wonder in the history of our family!” replied the green dragon. “He can also fish better than me, but he needs to know how to fly, defend himself with fire or water, and swim.” added Ranar. “That’s all?” questioned Arabella. “Yes sir-ee, that’s all.” answered Janeva.

“Splash! Splash! Hee, hee, hee!” Hiori knew how to swim now, and looked forward to his playtime with Akara. The unicorn and dragon were best friends now. The Opal River was where Akara took her first swim, and she and Hiori enjoyed exploring it. They found out the shortest, quickest (and safest) way to Hiori’s cave or Akara’s forest clearing was to follow the peaceful slow-moving Opal River. Today, Akara discovered ten small magic pearls. Hiori decided to fashion necklaces out of the pearls and some metal tree bark A metal tree is a tree that has bark that grows again and again like a cork tree, but the bark comes in many shades of metallic colors. “Which color do you like?” asked Hiori. “I like that blue, and my mom does too.” answered Akara, gesturing to a light shade of aquamarine. Hiori peeled off a little bit of bark, stretched it into a circle (metal tree bark can stretch and stay that way until you want to change it), and stuck 5 pearls into the now squishy bark. To harden the bark, Hiori breathed fire on it under-water. Then he put it on Akara’s neck. How beautiful it looked! “ Oh, thank you Hiori, I love it, “ exclaimed Akara,” can you make one for my mom? If you can, I’ll find more pearls for your mom!” Hiori agreed, and soon enough Akara found 3 more small magic pearls and surprisingly 2 large ones. The results were each mother received a fine chain necklace with a large pearl and two small ones on each side like this:--oo0oo-- Akara was the one who designed the necklace, and Hiori made them. Janeva’s necklace was sea green, and Arabella’s was lavender-blue. They were so amazed at their children work. For a coincidence, Akara and Hiori found out their dads have always wanted large chain necklaces with a mid-night blue magic charm. They got what they wished for: Ranar received a raindrop with a small pearl in it, Krisna was surprised with a starburst also containing a small pearl in the center of it. Akara made the charms; Hiori crafted the chains and hardened everything. Thus, they earned the name “Silver Woods Crafters”, and when a Silver Woods unicorn wanted some kind of jewelry, sometimes they went to Hiori’s cave or Akara’s forest clearing. Most things happened in Hiori’s cave, where he hung a beautiful sign that said: SILVER WOODS CRAFTS-WE MAKE WHAT YOU WANT. Hiori only hung up the sign on Sundays, when usually lots of things happened. This Sunday, one of the rainbow unicorns was having a birthday party and she was inviting ten other unicorns, including Arabella and Krisna. The rainbow unicorn having a birthday was named Flame-dancer, and she invited Janeva and Ranar too. Of course, to show their children’s work, Janeva and Arabella asked Hiori and Akara to make an anklet and matching necklace for Flame-dancer, who loved pretty things.
 

Hiori gathered pink and red bark, pink for the chain and anklet, red for the necklace’s pendant, which Akara suggested should be a flame with a red ruby. Akara flew to Red Ruby mountain while Hiori fashioned the chain and anklet. The anklet was just a band of pink with rubies pressed into it in a line. Mt Ruby was made almost entirely of ruby, so Akara used her magic horn laser to shoot a little chunk off. She caught it and went back to the Opal River. Hiori cut the chunk into 6 pieces- one big piece and 5 small gems into the anklet, and the big one in the pendant. Then he hardened the jewelry. At that time Krisna was lurking around outside, Akara handed the present to him and he flew away, calling, “I hope she likes this, it’s pretty to me!” News soon came that Flame-dancer enjoyed the present, and Hiori and Akara became known for their creative skill.

Hi, my name is Matt. I’m a normal fourteen-year-old boy with yellow hair and blue eyes. I have teenage life until one day when I’m racing on my bike, I fall off into a lake and for some strange reason, I was swung into a different dimension! Isn’t that weird!

Have you ever heard of a place called Death Zone? Well that’s where I went and I can tell you that if you’re not a wilderness person, you probably would not survive your first day there.

You see Death Zone is no average place because it’s filled with dragons! You probably think all dragons are mean and nasty, but you’re wrong. There is one dragon, Draco, which I help in the fight against evil. Don’t worry, you’ll learn more about him and other dragons later. As I told you before I have a dull teenage life until one day my life changed………………

“Hey I bet I can beat you to Master Hama’s (kung fu teacher) place!” I (Matt) called to my best friend Rick “Your on!” Rick answered. We were off! I got on my bike and began the race. Pedaling as fast as I could I whizzed by Rick. “Watch out where you’re going! You’re going to get hurt!” called Rick, “You know Master Hama would hate it if you got your clothe wet in the lake.” “Wh…” I didn’t get to finish my sentence as I flew off my bike and into the lake nearby. I lay stunned for a little while, but when I got up, instead of seeing Rick, I saw a prehistoric looking type of jungle!

I got out of the lake, I dried my self out as much as I could and began to look around. While I walked through the jungle I saw some reptiles and bugs that looked very odd. I even saw a lizard with wings! I tried picking it up but it hissed at me and oddly enough, coughed up a little smoke like a dragon. The second time I tried to pick it up, it worked.

When I began to study the strange reptile, I dropped it in more amazement seeing a blazing blast of fire write before my eyes! When the flames finished I checked to see what was making the grazing flames. I was surprised to see the flames were caused by a- DRAGON!!! Running as fast as I could and trying to dodge the branches I went. Then when I was going to dodge a branch near my head I ducked and tripped because I did not notice the branch below me. Ducking down I clasped my hands around me waiting for the fiery monster to burn me to a crisp. Suddenly, when the dragon like beast was going to blow fire, I heard a humongous splash. I turned to see that a humongous whale-looking type of animal created the splash! The whale glided toward the dragon and smashed the beast with a head butt. Bruised, the dragon took the little dragon like creature and flew away.

After the dragon was out of sight, I heard someone ask, “Are you ok?” “Who said that?” I asked frightened. Strangely enough, the reply came from behind me. That was where the whale was! Frightened, I mumbled, “D…did…did…did you say that?” Strangely the whale did say it. He turned out to be nice and even took me to his house with great hospitality! While I ate some of the food he made, the whale said his name was Draco. He was born in a group of planet concurring dragons called Demons. After his planet exploded only 5 Demons survived. He also said that now there are 6 young ones (children) of his kind. Draco also said the current location was Death Zone, the planet of many deaths.

“There are four other Demons that possess as much power as I” Draco explained, “There is Airborne, the flight Demon, Radica, the stretchy Demon, Hacksaw, the nature Demon, me, the water Demon, and above all the Demons is Dragoon, the Demon with all the powers me, Airborne, Radica, and Hacksaw possess. “Was that him in the forest?” I asked scared. Draco said that it wasn’t but it was his wife. Draco also said he was the only good Demon and that he was looking for a power force underwater that was said to give him the power to stop all evil.

“Matt, I need your help. Do you know…how do you say it in English…um…kung fu?” I’ll help you and yes I know kung fu!” I answered excitedly. Draco’s plan was to teach me an ancient art called tyho. After I knew it well Draco said we would go to the cuelo (ocean) and look for the power force.

The training of tyho was tough. Draco gave me a double-sided blade sword called a Slayer which (when used correctly) supposedly would give the person/animal the power to destroy anything they would wish to destroy. Day through night I would train with Draco slashing at the air with the Slayer. Just picking up the Slayer was a challenge because of its weight. We would train even in storms. “Left slash, right slash, left slash…” on and on Draco ordered. For many months the vigorous training went until one morning close to the end of the year, I heard a roar. Draco said when I heard that roar, I was supposed to go to the cuelo, find Draco, and begin the search for the power force. When I got to the river Draco gave me a little air tank object so I could breathe under water. I picked up my Slayer, got on Draco’s back, and began the search

While Draco and I were looking for the power force, I heard a whiz behind me. I turned quickly to see if Dragoon (which Draco warned me about) was following us. There was no one there, so I decided the little whiz was caused by a fish and began to search again. Hours passed going through dark caves, eerie shipwrecks, and many other creepy things. Strangely after around 12 hours under the cuelo, I saw a glow in a narrow crack in a cave. “Draco” I whispered, “Go check over there. I think I see a glow.” “That space is small but I’ll try to fit.” Answered Draco. Squeezing in the hole Draco popped into the other side of the cave and we began to look around. I could not believe it. There before us was the power force Draco and I were looking for!

Quickly our amazement was broke when we heard a humungous smash at the back of the cave. It was Dragoon, Hacksaw, Airborne, and Radica on Dragoon’s neck! They were humungous and much more hideous than I thought. Then the power force began to glow brighter and turned green! Draco yelped as the power force transformed into an even stronger Demon. Draco roared and swayed violently as he transformed into his new, radical form. “So it’s true” said Dragoon, “The power force Draco was always yapping about is true!” Suddenly, a flash of light blinded everybody in the room. Draco had just finished his transformation. He was a new Draco with blades at the ends of his fins, a tail that shoots spikes, and was much stronger and bigger.

“Wow!” I gasped, “You look great Draco!” “Yes, I guess I do.” Answered Draco, “But I’m still not strong enough. I need your help Matt. Use the Slayer also.” “Right” I said in confidence as I stood in sparing form. “You get Airborne and Radica, ok Matt?” questioned Draco, “I’ll get these two goons.” We were off! Slashing and jumping I went. First I fought Radica. This was a tough battle because Radica could stretch so he tried to wrap me up. Every time he tried to wrap me up, I would duck and slash him with my Slayer. Finally, I had one more slash until I destroyed the stretchy Demon. I slashed at the neck of Radica and destroyed him. Draco had no struggle destroying Hacksaw because he just shot a few spikes and destroyed Hacksaw. Meanwhile I began to fight with Airborne. He was the hardest fight I ever fought because every time I would slash at Airborne, He would fly away and cut me with one of his blades. Finally, when most of my close was ripped, I slashed, hit Airborne and he finally fell to the ground and expired.

Suddenly, when I turned to help Draco, I heard a planet-shattering crash. Right before my eyes I saw Draco torn up and on the ground. “To bad Draco, you put up a good fight, but not good enough. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!” Dragoon laughed devilishly. “You hurt my friend! Now I’m going to kill you!” I screamed as I ran toward Dragoon. I don’t know how but I know I took out the true power of the Slayer because I felt it extend.

Left, right, left, right, left; right I sliced and diced at Dragoon. Finally Dragoon fell to his knees and expired. After I was sure Dragoon had expired, I ran to Draco and asked, “Draco, are you ok?” “You’re an amazing warrior Matt” Draco told me, “Thanks to you all the other Demons have expired. Sadly, you have to go back to your world. I have struck the end as well.” “You don’t mean” “Yes, I mean I have to say goodbye. Uh!!!” I saw a flash of light and when the light was gone, was in my room. “You were a great warrior as well, Draco.” I said, sadly. When my family saw me they hugged me, asked why I was gone for a year, and where was I. So I began to tell them about my adventures in Death Zone.

         Wham! Chad and Tony Cane were knocked off course as an XP Hoverbike 3000 came crashing into them! “You crazy lunatics!” Mr. Cane yelled. Chad was more worried about getting the license plate of the Hoverbike than their boring old Hovercar 2500. The rider was wearing a hood so they couldn’t see his face. Just as quickly as it came, it left.

          “That Hoverbike didn’t have a license plate,” Tony whispered. “I know” Chad replied. Chad and Tony were twins. They both had brown hair, long legs and a muscular body. They had their mother’s blue eyes and their dad’s long nose.

Mr. Cane wanted them to be rocket scientists like him, but they wanted to be part of the SF Squad (Space Fighter). They were saving up to buy a pair of SF Squad training equipment. They only needed 47 more orbons.

             The next thing they heard was a siren. Then the police and part of the SF Squad pulled up next to Mr. Cane’s Hovercar and asked him which way the Hoverbike went. Mr. Cane pointed east and they zoomed off.

             Mr. Cane stepped on the gas and started flying home. They took the trike-transporter 1500 to zap themselves to their house. Mr. Cane folded their Hovercar and put it in his pocket.

             “Dad, we’re going to take the bus to the mall” Tony said. They paid 2 orbons to get on the spacebus. When the spacebus arrived at the Out of this World mall, they got off and went in. Suddenly lights flashed right in their faces. “Excuse me, but have any of you seen of these escaped criminals?” a policeman asked. He showed them some pictures and they shook their heads no.

            After the policeman left, Tony accidentally dropped an orbon and it slipped under a door as it closed. When Chad tried the door, he found out that it was locked. “Don’t worry” Chad said, “Dad gave me this door decoder for my birthday”. He took out a funny looking contraption that looked like a remote and attached it to the door. It beeped a few times and then the door opened. But the very minute that they opened the metal door, they wished that they had not. They opened their mouths to scream but nothing came out of it, just a gurgling sound that wouldn’t wake up a mouse.

              There were robbers robbing the store that Chad’s orbon had fallen under. The two men in black suits looked up their way and then threw little gadgets that looked like handcuffs except that they wrapped around your legs, making you fall over. Quickly and quietly the robbers tied handkerchiefs filled with gas around their mouths and noses. Chad and Tony were both unconscious.

              When they woke up they weren’t in the store anymore. They were at a different place, probably the thieves’ hideout. Chad noticed that the robbers weren’t wearing their masks anymore. One of the robbers was completely bald, short, and had emerald green eyes. But the other was in his teens, had jet black hair and was an average height. He also looked pretty tough. Then they started talking.

              “Hey Jo, what are we going to do with these guys” the teenager said to the bald guy. “I mean, we can’t keep them here forever, can we?” “No Darren,” replied Jo, “But we’ll think of something.” “While their still unconscious let’s go get a drink.” “But what if they wake up?” Jo wanted to know. “There in the Venus 5000, remember.” “Oh yeah!”

            As Jo and Darren left, Chad tried to get up but his arms and legs wouldn’t move. It was then that he remembered that Darren had mentioned the Venus 5000. Then he remembered that the Venus 5000 could freeze any living thing that goes in it. He tried to remember what his teacher said about escaping from one. After what seemed like an hour, it suddenly came to him. The way to escape from a Venus 5000 was to hold your breath and not try to move. After he did this, he checked to see if his brother was awake, but he couldn’t tell. Then he thought of an idea. He yelled into the Venus, “If you can hear me, hold your breath and try not to move!”

            A few minutes later, his brother tumbled out as well. “What was that thing?” Tony asked. “The Venus 5000, remember?” “Oh yeah.” Then Chad said, “Tony, you look for a way out of here, I will look at the computer.”

           An hour later both boys met back at the Venus. “It seems that the only way out of here is that door over there,” said Tony. “And when I went on the computer, it showed that there were two other doors behind it,” Chad replied. “Hey look, there is an Ort.” “A what?” “An Ort can send a radioactive wave and knock the power out of anything, that means we can get through those doors!” “But it only lasts 15minutes and each of those doors take 10 minutes to open.” “But if we use that wrench over there, it will only take 15 minutes, let’s go!”

           15 minutes later they walked out the last door, and how surprised they were when they saw that the place they just exited was the house next door to theirs. The first thing they did was run into the house and call 911.
