DOLLS

By Yanran Lu, 1st Grade (2000)

I like dolls
Some play with balls
    or live in the halls
    and splash in waterfalls
Some explore animals that crawl
Some like to go to malls
... But dolls don't like to falls

CAT

By Yanran Lu, 1st Grade (2000)

I like cats
Cats don't like bats
but cats like rats
some cats sleep on mats
    or walk by hats
This cat escapes a net
Cats like you!

Spring

By Yiren Lu, 4st Grade (2002)

Spring the world comes alive
Just as so do big beehives
Sunshine dazzles in the eye
Bumblebee dance with butterfly

Beautiful flowers shake with fun
Nice audiences to trick and stun
Birds are singing, the spring is near
Melodic sounds from ear to ear

Once again, the gentle streams flow
Once again, the soft breezes blow
A few more days and spring is here
A lovely thought I wish to bear

Americans

Kelly Cai, 4th Grade (2002)

Americans we are, proud and strong,
Proud for the beautiful flag that is
red, White, and Blue,
Strong from all the people
Who sing the same song
“I’m proud to be an American.”

Americans we are, united and diversified,
United from all over the world,
European, Asian and African,
Jewish, Buddhism and Christians,
Diversified from all the life we want to be
Doctors, engineers and teachers,
Soldiers, sailors, or even presidents!

Americans we are, freedom and liberty
Strong we will stay,
And always remain in our hearts!

The American Flag

Kimberly Cassacia, 4th Grade (2002)

The colors of the flag
red, white, and blue
But what they mean
Now I will tell you

Red is for courage
We have a lot
It simply comes naturally
why would it not

White is for flexibility
it's truly the best
and when we use it
were as an eagle in his nest

Blue’s the last color of all
Stands for freedom and bravery
which we haven't had all along

People

Kimberly Cassacia, 4th Grade (2002)

I see people on the street
I see peoples moving feet
I see people on the go
I've seen people on the phone

Many different faces
Many different places
All you see is people

Sometimes they mope
sometimes they sing
sometimes they're hopeful
sometimes they cling

I see people on the street
I see peoples moving feet
I see people on the go
I see people on the phone

The Gift

Kimberly Cassacia, 4th Grade (2002)

There is a gift
it's big and it's small
There is a gift
It's short and it's tall

This gift is fun
This gift is a bear
This gift can be soft
This gift can get soar

But what could it be
do you really wanna know?
Oh alright I'll tell you
It's a shining xylophone

Falling

Janis Colen, 4th Grade (2002)

Falling faster in my sleep,
Falling faster endlessly
Nowhere, nothing
Not to be seen
No sound, nothing
Endless sleep
The hole
The dark that never ends
The hole that never once begins
Now into the land of the kings
Out I come, a bird with wings
My beak, my mouth loudly sings
My heart, my chest loudly rings
Into the sea I will go
Change into a serpent
My ever foe
Now I change into my own self
A mere dream a mere elf
Now I disappear in my world
A mere dream slightly curled.

The Fire

Janis Colen, 4th Grade (2002)

There’s fire burning in my eyes
The fire takes me by surprise
The fire burning, celestial flame
The fire is all I gain
The pain, the hurt, the soft caress
The fire is which I bless
The soft, sweet, tempting glow
Will not go out with a single blow
It’s strong, the fire, the bright light
The one, the fire, the path at night.

Things I love About the Redwood Forest

by Sophia Grubb, 4th Grade 2002

I love the Redwood forests,
I love the smell of redwood trees,
I love the trillium all over the forest floor.
I love the way the golden needles crunch under my feet.
The Redwood forest is my favorite place to be.

What is it?

by Sophia Grubb, 4th Grade 2002

It is pretty,
It is big,
It is full of smells,
It is full of animals,
It is a Redwood Forest.

Wings

Alyssa Ho, 4th Grade (2002)

I dream of golden wings that soar above me,
Gliding to and from
Far and near.
I dream of golden wings that carry hope to me,
I dream of golden wings that will come back and visit me.

Grace

Alyssa Ho, 4th Grade (2002)

Gracefully you watch me, as I glide above your tree,
I can see daises, tulips’ and irises as I glide gracefully above you.
Circling around you like a crown of gold.
Wanting to say hi,
I love the way you sing and hum as the birds and time fly by.
Gracefully you sing and hum upon your fruited tree,
While you turn and notice as I glide and rest,
 Silently upon your knee.

Blossom

Alyssa Ho, 4th Grade (2002)

I watch you as you seed,
As you turn into a blossom,
Caring and hoping that you will grow, grow and grow.
I just know,
That you will blossom into a flower
Then and then you will have your own power.

The American Flag

by Monica Peterson, 4th Grade (2002)

The American Flag stands for freedom,
The American flag has thirteen stripes,
The American Flag has fifty stars,
It used to have 48 until we won Alaska and Hawaii,
The American Flag is red, white, and blue,
The American Flag is special in its own way,
The American Flag stands for America in its own special way.
