Race of the Month

The Great Stew Chase (Lynn)

February 1, 1997

A cool (35 degrees), moist (ice storm the night before, misting at the end of the race) day did not dampen the efforts of eleven CRC members. The Great Stew Chase offers an early Boston tuneup with this 15-K over a basically flat course that starts and finishes in the city of Lynn, but runs through Swampscott Harbor and the past the mansions of Marblehead. Bragging rights for top overall club finish goes to Jim Reardon, who beat Marcello Scippa by a full minute. Trophies were bagged by Janice Smaga, 1st Master's Female, and Al Nagel, 3rd Senior Male. Congratulations to all who ran!

  • Bruce Davie set yet another PR at the BU Indoor Track Relays, with a scintillating time of 4:52.5 in the mile event, even though he had to avoid a group of 55m hurdlers at the end. Bruce was last seen chasing down the Energizer Bunny in Stanford, CA, but claims he'll be back soon...
