Fresh Pond Racing Series

It was a dark and stormy night...well, a grey, wet and windy day at Fresh Pond this weekend.

Quite a crowd turned up nevertheless for the 5 and 2.5 mile events. I managed to finish second in the 5 miler in 28:26 (5:41) - not my best time for the distance, but better than I've done for a while and feeling pretty good while I did it.

I would like to encourage more CRCers to try out this race, especially those with limited racing experience. It's totally low key: enter on the day, no fee, no shirts, no traffic (apart from the odd dog and owner), just a couple of volunteers to hand out numbered popsicle sticks and record times at the end. It's run every weekend (Saturdays at 10:00 AM) rain or shine (or snow) - I usually make up my mind about running when I wake up on Saturday. The field varies greatly from week to week, and almost anyone could finish in the top five if you were lucky; alternatively, you might come across some top local runners doing it as a tune-up.

Perhaps we should do it as race of the month sometime. Who says you have to pay $10 or more every time you race?
