Strong Showing In Waltham
4 CRC On New Years Day!

The Cambridge Running Club took 4th, 10th, 11th and 12th overall at the Run 4 New Years Day in Waltham on the first. Twelve CRC runners competed overall, fighting hangovers and a long hill. Jim Reardon continued his assault into the elite ranks by clocking 5:22 miles, finishing in 21:28 to take fourth. Robert Harrison took first master's male and tenth overall, in 21:59, 31 seconds in front of Bob Gillon, who placed second in that category. Sandwiched between the two was Marcello Scippa, taking a break from his Fresh Pond training to finish in 22:11. Al Nagel placed second in the men's senior category, with a time of 26:09. Lori Tobin was the 3rd woman to cross the line in 28:04, and hot on her heels just 13 seconds behind was Janice Smaga, finishing as the first master's female.

Other January Results

January 7th

  • Ronnie Trippett, our marathon master, has completed more than thirty marathons. The Disney World Marathon on Janary 7th was his 35th, which he finished in 3:44.
  • Derek Mess went down to Bourne on the Cape and raced in a 4.94 miler, coming in 9th overall and 3rd in his age group with a time of 29:18 (5:56)
January 20th
  • Missy Mendel doubled her Fresh Pond victory totals by winning the women's 5 mile race, holding off some close competition, completing the icy course in 33:22.
January 27th
  • Although Best Man in his brother's wedding later that morning, a 7:30am start time allowed Scott Duhaime to compete in the Park Avenue 5K in Winter Park Florida. Under warm and humid conditions, Scott finished 96th overall out of a field of 1296 runners, with a time of 19:30. He had to shake off the effects of a Rehersal Dinner the night before, and giving shoulder rides to his two nephews in Disney World the day before that!
