Race of the Month

Run 4 New Years Day (Waltham)
January 1, 1997

Six CRC runners braved the sub-zero like conditions and conquered the hills of Waltham. Jim Reardon won a close battle for top club honors with Marcello Scippa and 12th place overall with his time of 22:41 (5:40). Marcello was just 7 seconds and one place behind (5:42). Dave Quilty represented the Male Master's contingent (because no one else wanted to get out of bed!) and his time of 27:48 (6:57) gave him 92nd place. Janice Smaga came in 160th in 30:27 (7:37), while Lori Tobin came up from Hull (not a mispell) to grab 181st place in 31:08 (7:47). Ewa Golebiowska made the most of her Winter Break to place 323rd in 36:15 (9:04).

Dave Quilty also adds that Peter Larsen 319 (35:58 -- 9:00)and George (alive and living well in the North End) Morgan 326 36:24 -- 9:06) also ran this race. Congratulations to all!

Other January Results

  • I know that Todd Tamura and Missy Mendel ran the race through Central Park in New York on New Year's Eve, but they won't tell me their times. They did say that they stayed up 'till 5am though!
Chuck Schultz also ran it, but he chooses to talk about it:

I went to NY, Central Park midnight run also, with the wife and met my brother-in-law and and sister-in-law from New Jersey . Very cold. Great fireworks. Very cold. Frostbite on one toe. Very cold. Got a parking space along side the Park and had a great dinner. Very cold. My wife loved running her first race ever. Very cold.

  • Ronnie Trippett celebrated his morning after at the Hangover Classic 10K in Salisbury, coming in 182nd overall in a time of 47:36 (7:36)
January 5
  • Bruce Davie set a PR in the mile at an indoor track meet at Brandeis University. Well, okay, he had never run a timed mile before; nonetheless his 4:54 clocking is still a PR!
January 25
  • Mike Albert snuck off and did a Fresh Pond 5 Miler in 31:06 (6:14), taking 6th place.
