Race of the Month
Great Harvard 4th of July 5 miler, at Haravard MA. Saturday July 3rd
Submitted by Scott Duhmaine:
CRC Cleaned up in the trophy
category, as 66.7% of those who raced from the club won a prize. Though
warned of the hilly nature of this course, several participants were heard
muttering expletive deletives while walking up the steep incline in mile 3.
Diane Sagnella, who ran the race last year, attributed her attendance this
year to memory loss - "kind of like why women chose to get pregnant a
second time," she said.
Peter Gallimore lead through the first two
miles, but got passed by the eventual winner on the hill and finished 2nd
in 28 minutes flat. Bruce Davie was able to keep Peter in sight and
finished 4th overall and 2nd in his age group in 29:04. Bruce didn't think
the course was that difficult, but his 5:49 pace says otherwise. Diane
Sagnella got a much needed boost from Scott Duhaime in the 4th
mile to pass two women and finish as 4th overall female and 2nd in her age
group in 34:09, while Scott faded back to 34:45, and 42nd overall. Dave
Quilty was just behind him in 35:59 and 55th overall, while Janice
Smaga just nipped the 40 minute barrier (39:57) to finish 2nd in her
category and exactly half way in the pack (111th out of 222).
Janice,
Dave, and Diane then celebrated by swimming in Scott's nearby pool and
eating oreo cookies.
