Battle of Bunker Hill 8k/2m Sunday June 13th Charlestown, MA
Historic Charlestown was the site of the annual Battle of Bunker Hill
Road Race. The morning was cool and dry with just a hint of a sea
breeze wafting through the navy yard. Among the nearly 400 competitors
were several stalwarts from CRC.
The march was flat except, not
surprisingly, for one challenging hill. Feliciano Protasi led the
CRC regiment (with a finishing time of 32:23). Chuck Dalcorobbo was
right behind (32:53). Louise Brooks (33:59), David Quilty (34:42),
Ingrid Larkin (34:37) and Janice Smaga (38:19) provided reinforcements.
Diane Sagnella diplayed loyalty to the cause by lending logistical support as she
helped pace Feliciano.
Special honors (big $$$) were awarded to Louise, first in her division, Ingrid, 4th in her division, and Janice Smaga 2nd in hers. General Prescott would have been pleased!
Gallimore Gallops to Victory
The story says it all. Despite some fierce headwinds
Peter G. ran and won the Break Time 5K
outside of Lotus in 16:05 (5:11). While not quite as fast as Peter
Diane Sagnella still mustered a PR finishing the 5K in
20:18 (6:32).
Feliciano Protasi got another smashing PR running the Esplanade loop
in 18:47 (6:04)! Diane was also there and thanks to the help
in the final 200m by, a by then well-rested, Peter she broke
20 minutes for the first time crossing the finish line in 19:55 (6:25).
The is the third PR for her in the past week.
She comments:
Last week I had a pretty miserable race. One reason being running
the first mile in ~6, the other the wind. This week the weather
was perfect. I had no excuse. This time I ran a bit more intelligently.
Instead of following the lead women (I was WAY outclassed!) I hung back.
In doing so I felt that I ran much more consistently and even managed
to beat the woman that was right in front of me last week. That
was quite satisfying. I was also gaining bit by bit on
the 3rd place woman. Unfortunately, I relaxed my pace too much in the
final 1/2 mile and let her go. Peter helped me finish strong
and got me to the ever elusive sub 20 minute mark!
Thanks Peter!
Despite this I still feel incomplete. True I broke 20 but I
JUST broke 20. 19:55 is just too close for comfort!
I guess I gotta suffer more at the track!
