Race of the Month
November
The Boston Athletic Club 5-miler November 12th, 2000
Submitted by Shelley McDonough CRC Race of the month coordinator.
CRC made a strong showing at November's race of the month, garnering 4 awards
in total!
Karl Amundson cruised to an easy victory in the 5 mile race, taking
1st place in 27:00, more than a minute ahead of the next finisher. Age group
awards went to Tanya (1st in 20-29), Johanna (3rd in 30-39), and Shelley (3rd in
20-29)....In all, nearly 10 CRC'ers turned out for the popular race, on a day
with near-perfect conditions. Following Karl's lead, all members turned in fine
performances. Tanya recovered from her strong showing at the Bay State Half in
time to prove that she is rapidly becoming one of CRC's top women -- she ran a
blistering 33:40 to finish as the 5th woman overall (1st in her age group).
Three members of the CRC family finished within 4 seconds of each other, at just
over 7:00 minute pace -- Bob Boudrot, quickly bouncing back from his marathon
only a few weeks ago, finished in 35:21 (13th in his division). Only a second
behind, in 35:22 (7th in his division), was David Pulsifer (Shelley's friend),
running in his first -- but with this display of talent, surely not last -- road
race ever! Two seconds later, Johanna Foster crossed the line in 35:24, for an
impressive 8th place among the women (3rd in her division). None too happy with
my time, I finished in 36:37, as the 11th woman. I was 5th in my division, but
took home a 3rd place medal due to the fact that 2 of the top 3 overall winners
came from my division. Also deserving of a big congratulations are Mark Smith,
who turned in a solid 38:37 for the CRC men,Jennifer Sehenrich finished in 40:10 to take 19th place in her division
(out of 52),
and new member Heather Dimmick
(46:50) who crossed the line with Caryn Gordon (46:51). Rumor has it that Caryn
registered a huge PR with this run, and Heather chatted nonstop throughout the 5
miles (so we'll be expecting her to knock off a few minutes from the time in her
next race!!) All racers enjoyed plenty of beer, pizza, chili, hot dogs (as well
as the usual post-race fare) as a reward for their efforts.
Hope to see you all at the December race of the month in West Roxbury!
