I compiled this page as a small tribute to my all time favorite band.
Since the goal here is not to have an exhaustive list of everything every band member ever did, I'll just try to stick to what I would call the Nephilim bands. Rubicon, Sensorium, or the Last Rites will of course be mentioned, but don't expect much more than that (I have nothing against them, it's more a question of time ;-).

November 2004 : Lots of things happened, and nothing happened. One thing for sure is that I've been lazy updating this site. 'Fallen' was released a long time ago, and s**ks. Quality is average at best, and despite the marketing junk that surrounds it, it's just a revamp of some old/rare/demo tracks that have been circulating for some time.
Now the 'real' nephilim website is up, Carl McCoy is behind it, the other left (Last Rites, NFD), but it's announcing (and that's fresh news from this week), that a new album will be released early 2005... Wait and see...

June 2002 : More news via Amazon...The new album should be out in September...

February 2002 : News at last ? Maybe... You can order 'The new album' from the German site of Amazon...'to be released on June 3rd 2002'. (source : www.amazon.de)

January 2002 : The past months have been incredibly quiet on the Nephilim front. No news, no rumors, nothing. No one seems to know what Carl is up to...

June 2001 : The Last Rites will tour UK early September. The album should be released on September 10th. (source : www.nephilim.co.uk)

March 2001 : Carl cancelled the scheduled appearances at some summer festivals, including Wave Treffen. (source : Jungle)

March 2001 : Fields of the Nephilim will play at Gothik Wave Treffen. (source : Jungle)

January 2001 : A new song is travelling accross the net, actually a triple song (Dead to the world, The way that we were, and Thirst). Its origin is still unknown.

Fields of the Nephilim was formed in 1984 and release it's first EP Burning the Fields one year later. After releasing 3 full-length albums (Dawnrazor, The Nephilim, and Elizium), two official live records (Earth Inferno and BBC Radio 1 Live in Concert) and a compilation of their greatest hits along with some rarities (Revelations), they splitted in 1991.

Tony Pettitt and the Wright brothers founded a new band called Rubicon, with vocalist Andy Delany , while Carl kept the name Nefilim (different spelling) for his new band, and in 1996 released Zoon with Paul Miles, Simon Rippin, and Cian Houchin. In 1997, the 'orginal' Fields of the Nephilim were back together (Carl,Tony, and the Wright brothers). Unfortunately, the brothers left before anything was released, and founded another band called The Last Rites. Carl and Tony, along with Paul Miles and Simon Rippin, released in 2000 the single One More Nightmare - basically a remix of Trees Come Down - , under the name Fields of the Nephilim AD. A new album is supposed to follow.

Although the line up changed a few times, most people consider that the 'core' members of the Fields of the Nephilim are :
    Carl McCoy : Vocals
    Tony Pettitt : Bass
    Paul Wright : Guitar
    Nod Wright : Drums
Other musicians that were at some point involved with the band :
Gary Wisker : Sax (on Burning the Fields)
Peter Yates : Guitar (on Dawnrazor, The Nephilim, Elizium, Earth Inferno, and Revelations)
Simon Rippin : Drums (on Zoon with Nefilim, and on One More Nightmare with Fields of the Nephilim AD)
Paul Miles : Guitar (on Zoon with Nefilim, and on One More Nightmare with Fields of the Nephilim AD)
Cian Houchin : Bass (on Zoon with Nefilim)

I'll only focus on the albums here.
Burning the Fields(1984)
The very first one. The cover is Carl's painting, apparently called 'The Melting Girl' (?). It contains four tracks :
- Trees Come Down
- Back in Gehenna
- Darkçell
- Laura
This one has a rather special sound because of the presence of Gary Wisker and its sax.

Dawnrazor(1987)
The first full length album. The CD version contains thirteen songs :
- The Harmonica Man
- Slow Kill
- Laura II
- Preacher Man
- Volcane
- Vet for the Insane
- Secrets
- Dust
- Reanimator
- Power
- The Tower
- Dawnrazor
- The Sequel
The 'mythical' side of the Nephs isn't that present yet, especially compared to the later albums. The record is fine, all songs are good, but I miss that weird feeling you get when listening to The Nephilim or Elizium.

The Nephilim(1988)
Much darker than the previous one, this album contains most of their most popular songs: Last Exit, Moonchild, The Watchman, ... It features the following tracks :
- Endemoniada
- The Watchman
- Phobia
- Moonchild
- Chord of Souls
- Shiva
- Celebrate
- Love Under Will
- Last Exit for the Lost
Fields at their best, with plenty of references to the Book of Enoch, or to Lovecraft's Chtulu mythos. An album you will never get tired of. It also has an excellent sound. Highly recommended !

BBC Radio 1 Live in Concert(1988)
The first official Live, recorded at Sheffield Universtity. Good but too short ;-) Here is the track list :
- Endemoniada
- Love Under Will
- Moonchild
- Blue Water
- Chord of Souls
I'm sure everyone will appreciate Nod's intro for Endemoniada...

Elizium(1990)
The last real, and probably the best one. Long, dark, soft, and haunting melodies, great lyrics, this album is really a masterpiece. Just let yourself transported, and enjoy your journey throught the mythical land of Sumer.
- Dead but Dreaming
- For her Light
- At the Gates of Silent Memory
- Paradise Regained
- Submission
- Sumerland (what dreams may come)
- Wail of Sumer
- And there will your heart be also
All songs are just great, and Sumerland is my all time favorite. After all those years I still get that magical feeling everytime I listen to it. That is also true for Elizium as a whole.

Earth Inferno(1991)
The second official Live, much longer than the previous one. Maybe more artificial also : different pieces, from different concerts, all re-mixed together, but on the other end, the album gains in quality.
- Dead but Dreaming
- For her Light
- At the Gates of Silent Memory
- Paradise Regained
- Moonchild
- Submission
- Preacher Man
- Love Under Will
- Sumerland
- Last Exit for the Lost
- Psychonaut
- Dawnrazor
I love this one. Some will complain about the lack of authenticity in the sound, but I don't think that's what official lives are for. There are a few bootlegs out there, if you're really interested in 'true' live albums. Anyway, I think no single record can re-create the unique atmosphere of a live performance.

Revelations(1993)
This album is somewhere between a 'best of' and a 'rare tracks' collection. Great, if, like me, you discovered the band a bit too late and have a hard time catching up with the singles etc...
- Moonchild
- Chord of Souls
- Last Exit for the Lost
- Preacher Man
- Love Under Will
- Power
- Psychonaut Lib 111
- For her Light
- Blue Water
- Vet for the Insane
- Watchman
- Dawnrazor (live)
I like the selection of songs. One regret maybe : the dreamed version of Sumerland would have been great here. There is a also second CD on some editions, with various mixes of Preacher Man, Moonchild etc..., but I don't have the chance to own that one.

Zoon(1996)
The long awaited Zoon was a surprise for most Fields of the Nephilim fans, including me. It's way heavier than anything Carl released before, but you can still feel the 'Nephilim' presence on the album. Here's the track list :
- Still Life
- Xodus
- Shine
- Penetration
- Melt
- Venus
- Pazuzu
- Zoon part I&II (saturation)
- Zoon part III (wake world)
- Coma
I took me a while to get used to the new sound, but I now really enjoy Zoon. Some of the songs, like Shine or Zoon, still have that particular touch that I like so much. The heavier stuff is really cool too, but it just isn't what Fields used to be.

Fields... has to be understood as "magnetic field", nothing to do with cereals...
Nephilim... is the original Hebrew word for what was translated to "Giant" in the old Testament. They are the sons of mortal women and angels that came on earth to teach mankind.
Lovecraft... my favorite author even before I learned about the Nephs. He's the man behind the Cthulu mythos, but was only credited for his genius after his death. His influences in the Carl's lyrics are obvious.
Aleister Crowley... famous 'magician' of the first half of the 20th century. Another influence in Carl's work. He's the guy on Zoon's cover.
The Book of Enoch... an apocrypha, another strong influence for Fields of the Nephilim.
Sheer Faith... is Carl and Lynn's design company
Scarlett... Zoon was dedicated to her. She is Carl's daughter.
Sensorium... An unreleased Nefilim song, also the name of the band of Simon Rippin and Paul Miles (ex Nefilim), with Peter 'Bob' White as singer. Jahazralah is the name of their first album.

I highly encourage you to check the links chapter if you're looking for more information about the above.

Looking for Fields stuff ?
Well you can already start by downloading a few winamp skins I created based on various Fields of the Nephilim pictures, or the wallpaper I composed using Earth Inferno's artwork and a copy of the lyrics of Psychonaut Lib III. Also there are some FoTN-related icons in the icon zip file.
Still want more ?
Check the links chapter, in the Fields of the Nephilim section. You'll find everything you're looking for on those sites : Other wallpapers, Nephilim T-shirts, Lyrics and their Interpretations, Bootlegs info, Interviews, Mailing lists, etc ... Enjoy !
