About the NPRHA

We are an independent, non-profit, educational corporation formed in 1981 to collect, preserve and disseminate information about the Northern Pacific Railway and its associated lines. The Northern Pacific Railway Historical Association is more than 1,500 members dedicated to researching, preserving, and modeling the Northern Pacific Railway. We publish The Mainstreeter, a 32-page quarterly magazine, as our main way of preserving information about the NP. The Mainstreeter is produced using high quality photo reproductions and articles written by NPRHA members. The magazine contains one to three articles in each issue along with regular columns on modeling, collectibles, stories of the NP, and current NPRHA and NP news. The NPRHA also publishes a calendar annually showing a monthly photo of the NP in action and the dates of the significant events over the NP's history.

NPRHA Activities

We put on an annual convention in mid-July in a city on the NP line. The convention includes many clinics and slide presentations about the NP, a swap meet, modeling and photo contests, great conversations, and much more. We organize other activities that promote Things NP on the local level in response to the efforts of various members. The association has produced video tapes showing and discussing the operations of the NP. We produce sets of slides each year from some of the outstanding photographers that have recorded the NP in action. Also, we encourage model suppliers to bring out kits of significant NP equipment and structures and to produce special pins, shirts, and other memorabilia commemorating the NP. Many of these NP items and back issues of The Mainstreeter can be purchased through the NPRHA Company Store, 11232 Washington St. NE, Blaine, MN 55434. Send for one of their catalogs.

How You Can Help Preserve NP History

We welcome your efforts, information, ideas, suggestions, and help in recruiting new members, particularly NP veterans. If you have any NP related material or information to share, please do! Send a note to the address shown below describing what you have and we will get back to you. The more information and active members we have, the better job we can do in publishing the NP story. We hope you will become an active member of the NPRHA.

Joining The NPRHA

Individuals sharing an interest in the Northern Pacific Railway - whether as railfans, veterans, modelers, collectors or historians, are invited to join the NPRHA. Regular association dues are $20.00 per year, NP veteran's dues are $15.00, and $35.00 makes you a sustaining member for the year. Canadian members dues are $25.00 US. Members living outside North America pay the sustaining rate. All membership classes entitle you to receive four issues of The Mainstreeter and a calendar for the subscription year regardless of when you join. As the supply of calendars is limited, they may not be available very long after the start of the year. Both foreign and sustaining members receive their Mainstreeter and calendar by first class mail. Sustaining members have the added satisfaction of knowing that a little extra has been done to help the NPRHA preserve the NP story. For an on-line membership application which you can print out and mail in from your home, press HERE.

Help The NPRHA Recruit New Members

Many potential NPRHA members are not aware that there is a quality organization and magazine dedicated exclusively to Northern Pacific Railway equipment, operations, and history. Thus, we are constantly trying to reach these people in a meaningful way. The best approach is for our members to tell people they know about the NPRHA and show them a copy of The Mainstreeter. This sheet is intended to help you explain who we are and how a person can join the NPRHA.

Thanks for taking time to learn more about us--we hope you'll join!
