SILICON GRAPHICS NAMES WILLIAM M. KELLY AS VICE PRESIDENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND GENERAL COUNSEL

On January 21, 1994, Silicon Graphics, Inc. announced that William M. Kelly has accepted the position of Vice President, Business Development, and General Counsel of Silicon Graphics. Kelly will replace Silicon Graphics veteran R.L. Smith McKeithen, who has announced his intention to leave the company to pursue other interests.

"Silicon Graphics is fortunate to have Bill join our executive team. He brings with him a broad range of experience in complex corporate and legal issues," said Edward R. McCracken, president and CEO of Silicon Graphics. "As our outside counsel, Bill was instrumental in representing the company during the MIPS merger, becoming fluent in the company's strategy and culture. I'm certain that he will add insight as we face new challenges ahead."

"Smith has made significant contributions during his six-year tenure, orchestrating a variety of strategic transactions throughout the company's history and building a world-class legal organization," added McCracken. "He has been central to our transition from a niche graphics workstation manufacturer to a worldwide computer systems company. We will miss his clear thinking and guidance."

Since 1978, Kelly has been with Shearman & Sterling, a large New York-based international law firm. He specializes in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions for technology and biotechnology companies. Currently Kelly is co-managing partner of Shearman & Sterling's San Francisco office. Kelly received a bachelor of arts degree in history from Columbia College and a law degree from Columbia Law School.
