INTERGRAPH'S I/DESIGN PORTED TO SILICON GRAPHICS PLATFORM

Enhanced Industrial Design Solutions

Intergraph Introduces I/Design 3 to Link Creative, Mechanical Design

On March 14, 1994, Intergraph Corporation introduced I/Design 3, a software package for industrial designers and engineers that links creative and mechanical design. I/Design 3 contains substantial modeling and visualization enhancements and extends platform support to Silicon Graphics. The first public demonstrations of I/Design 3 are being conducted at the National Design Engineering Show here.

"I/Design 3 makes conceptual design easier and faster than ever before," said William H. McClure, vice president, Intergraph Mechanical. "And porting it to Silicon Graphics lets industrial designers combine I/Design 3 with other popular software packages on Silicon Graphics to perform functions like graphic design and animation."

Improved Performance "I/Design 3's new and enhanced features make it a powerful yet simple design tool," said Steve Marz, I/Design product manager. "I/Design 3 includes accelerated dynamic view manipulation and enhanced photo-realistic rendering," Marz said. He noted that two new features greatly enhance visualization capabilities. Users can now perform bump mapping and select specific areas or objects for rendering. The selective rendering capability lets the designer focus on visualizing key design elements rather than taking the time to render the entire model. Tools such as QuickCurve and SmartSketch make it easy to draw and refine curves. QuickCurve enables users to interactively and dynamically manipulate free-form curves. Other features further improving design flexibility and productivity include commands that generate thin-walled solids, ribs and edge-rounding. I/Design 3's availability on Silicon Graphics workstations enables users to exchange models and data generated in I/Design with most other software programs (I/Design includes 2D and 3D standard conversions. Other conversions are available separately).

I/Design Protege Intergraph offers a compact version of I/Design 3, I/Design Protege. A pathway to computer-aided industrial design (CAID), I/Design Protege provides a cost-effective alternative for introducing CAID or expanding system capabilities. It enables industrial designers and engineers to easily create, modify, visualize and evaluate complex free-form models. I/Design Protege is available on Intergraph, Sun and Silicon Graphics workstations.

Availability and Price I/Design 3 is available this month and list for $25,900 (U.S.) I/Design Protege lists for $14,900 (U.S.).
