INTERGRAPH'S EMS 3 ported to Silicon Graphics platform

New Mechanical Technology Reaches Market

Intergraph Delivers EMS 3 Integrated Mechanical CAD/CAM/CAE Software

On March 11, 1994, Intergraph Corporation announced customer availability of EMS 3, the new version of its Engineering Modeling System (EMS) family of computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) software solutions. The new release features significant enhancements in all areas and numerous new products. EMS 3 supports hardware from leading vendors including Intergraph, Silicon Graphics and Sun Microsystems.

Enthusiastic Reception Intergraph said EMS 3 has received enthusiastic reception from industry analysts and Intergraph Mechanical customers. The product family's greatly enhanced features and functionality and multiple-platform support have produced this positive response. Industry analysts believe the EMS 3 product family significantly impacts the CAD marketplace. According to Dataquest's Vendor Profile, November 1993, "EMS 3 is a well-integrated, full-functional product and [Intergraph] is poised for an aggressive attack of this market."

The January issue of Engineering Automation Report stated, "[Intergraph] has one of the broadest suites of mechanical design, analysis and manufacturing programs available in the industry. And these products incorporate some of the most advanced technology we have seen to date." D.H. Brown Associates, Intergraph at the Crossroad, September 1993, describes EMS 3 as "some of the best technology available for mechanical design" and notes its "pricing is among the most competitive in the industry." Intergraph resellers and customers also received the product enthusiastically. "EMS 3 is without a doubt a release that will make a difference in today's CAD Market," according to Shawn Oxley, vice president, Pyramid Solutions Inc., an Intergraph reseller. "This release truly shows how Intergraph has been working with and listening to its customers." Intergraph customer, Mary Sobralske, senior CAD analyst, Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation, said "The enhancements in EMS 3 not only put Intergraph ahead of the competition in parametric, variational, and feature-based modeling but give EMS the leading-edge technology in areas of filleting, rounding, adding draft and thin wall solid creation."

Extensive Enhancements The depth and breadth of EMS 3 enhancements cover the full spectrum of mechanical engineering applications. Significant new capabilities reach into the following areas: variational solid modeling, mechanical design and drafting, industrial design, finite element analysis, kinematic analysis, plastics engineering, fabrication, numerical control programming, engineering data management and multiple-system interoperability.
