Biography
John Evans is a technology leader with fifteen years of experience in the development, deployment and evolution of leading edge Service Provider IP / MPLS network, service and system architectures. CurrentlyTechnical Director for Cariden Technologies, where he is responsible for providing technical and business direction, with specific focus on EMEA and for ensuring successful deployments of Cariden's products, and steering product development and marketing. Previously, he worked for Cisco as a Distinguished Consulting Engineer within Cisco’s Development Organisation, where he worked on the definition of next generation IP / MPLS network and system architectures for Service Providers.
His professional interests span core and edge IP / MPLS network design, planning and technologies, traffic engineering / management, QOS and SLA assurance. His previous areas of technology focus have included: IP video transport and subscriber service control {policy, QOS, resource and admission control} for broadband networks, with associated work in the Broadband Forum, the MSF and ETSI / TISPAN; he maintains an active interest in these areas. He authored "Deploying IP and MPLS QOS for Multiservice Networks" (Elsevier, 2007), has filed a number of patents in his focus technology areas, and is a frequent author and speaker on these subjects.
Prior to joining Cisco in 1999, John worked for British Telecom where he was responsible for the design and development of large-scale networks for the financial community. Prior to joining BT, he worked on the design, deployment and operation of battlefield communications networks for the military. He received a B.Eng. (Hons) degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST, now the University of Manchester), UK in 1991 and a M.Sc. degree in Communications Engineering from UMIST in 1996. He is a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) and Fellow of the IET (FIET), a Senior Member of the IEEE, and a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE).
