M101 M101 (NGC 5457)

This is a new image of M101 taken March 9th, 1997 on top of Elsinore Peak with my Meade LX200 10 inch telescope. This image is composed of four 4 minutes exposures summed together and then processed. M101 has a read shift of about 245 miles/second away from us. The apparant size of this galaxy is thought to be about 90,000 light years across, one of the larger examples of a Sc Galaxy.
