NGC 4565 NGC 4565

NGC 4565 edge on Spiral Galaxy imaged with a Meade LX200 10" at F/4 and a CB 245 CCD Camera. I combined ten 60 second exposures to create this image. It was taken from my backyard near Laguna Beach, Calif. on Feburary 15, 1997.

This galaxy is moving away from our galaxy at about 750 miles per second. It's size from edge to edge is about 90,000 light years and is about 6600 light years wide NGC 4565 is positioned about 3 degrees from the Galactic Pole and is possibly an outlying member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster, though it lies some 13 degrees north of the main concentration.
