NGC 4594 NGC 4594 (M104)

This image of NGC 4594 (M104) is composed of three 4 minute exposures added together. This was taken on top of Elsinore Peak on March 9th, 1997 with my Meade LX200 10" telescope with a CB245 and a focal reducer at F/4. M104 is also called the "Sombrero Galaxy" because of its shape.

This galaxy is part of the Virgo Cluster and appears inclined to our point of view by about 6 degrees from edge-on. At the accepted distance of 40 million light years, the distance across the galaxy is about 82,000 light years, with a corrected red shift of 700 miles per second away from us.
