Work In Progress
This is my latest painting project. The original reference is a photo by John Pring at the Stock Exchange free photo site.
25th July 2005

This is the finished painting.

I used Daler-Rowney Water Colour Not Board and a mixed bunch of acrylic paints... D-R System 3, W&N Galleria, Liquitex pots and some really cheap tubes from a company called Boldmere.

Here's how the painting progressed...

16th June 2005

I started with a pencil sketch. Then I went over the dark stripes and washed in some tone using Paynes Grey.

17th June 2005

Next I washed over some orange to get him looking roughly right...

20th June 2005

I painted wet into wet as if I was using watercolours to create the eyes. I cleaned up the tip of the nose and the black and white fur around the eyes. I also added some shadow over the eyes...

Hopefully this gives the eyes less google and more glower...
27th June 2005

At this stage I had been working on the fur, painting small strokes of white gesso and then tinting them with orange. I had also added a blurred green background. Hopefully this brings out the colour of the eyes...

5th July 2005

Lots of work on the beard. I also went over the background again to make the ears slightly smaller and to clean up the edges of the beard...

19th July 2005

Mainly working on the nose, trying to represent the short fur and give it a better shape

25th July 2005

I've added the whiskers and the painting is finished.
