I used Daler-Rowney Water Colour Not Board and a mixed bunch of acrylic paints... D-R System 3, W&N Galleria, Liquitex pots and some really cheap tubes from a company called Boldmere. Here's how the painting progressed... |

I started with a pencil sketch. Then I went over the dark stripes and washed in some tone using Paynes Grey. |

Next I washed over some orange to get him looking roughly right... |

I painted wet into wet as if I was using watercolours to create the eyes. I cleaned up the tip of the nose and the black and white fur around the eyes. I also added some shadow over the eyes... |

At this stage I had been working on the fur, painting small strokes of white gesso and then tinting them with orange. I had also added a blurred green background. Hopefully this brings out the colour of the eyes... |

Lots of work on the beard. I also went over the background again to make the ears slightly smaller and to clean up the edges of the beard... |
