LEOMINSTER -- St. Peter-Marian found it was able to move the ball efficiently on the ground in the first half, building a 10-6 lead shortly before halftime. But on Friday night at Leominster, St. Peter-Marian didn't have nearly the same success stopping the Blue Devils' running game or junior Anthony Bizzotto. Bizzotto ran for 161 yards on 16 carries and three touchdowns to lead Leominster to a 24-10 victory over St. Peter-Marian at Doyle Field. "He had a great game, scoring three touchdowns," said Leominster coach John Dubzinski. "He made a lot of big plays." But so did the entire backfield. Leominster (3-1) spread the wealth with Adam Cordio (88 yards) and Tom Fallon (70 yards). Senior quarterback Chris Swart also had a big game, connecting with senior Tom DiLillo on a big 33-yard pass play late in the first half. "I thought all our kids ran the ball well, but (Swart) made some good passes also," Dubzinski said. "But St. Peter-Marian played a good game, too. Their kids are so tough." St. Peter-Marian led by scores of 3-0 and 10-6 in the first half before Swart engineered a nine-play, 81-yard scoring drive to put Leominster ahead for good, 12-10, with 2:39 left in the second quarter. Staring down a second and long play, Swart found DiLillo with a quick pass up the middle that went 33 yards to paydirt. In the second half, the Leominster defense went to work, holding the Guardians scoreless the rest of the way. "We wore them down in the second half," said Dubzinski. "We just went to the basic 50 defense and we did a better job." After seeing its first possession of the second half stopped at the Guardian 1-yard line, the Blue Devils defense got the ball to the offense in three plays, and the offense turned it into six points in just five plays. Bizzotto broke a tackle and sped down the right sideline 28 yards for the score. On Leominster's next possession, Bizzotto struck again. This time, Bizzotto ran up the gut, got stopped, then bounced outside and outraced the Guardian defense into the end zone for a 15-yard score with 8:12 left to play in the game. Leominster travels to face B.C. High next Friday night at 7 p.m.
