RIDE THE TIDE
EMass power Everett rolls By Chris Forsberg cfosberg@sentinelandenterprise.com
Fitchburg -- Forget Ophelia, the Fitchburg football squad got swarmed under by the Crimson Tide Friday night. Visiting Everett stormed into rain soaked Crocker Field and piled up a startling 447 yards on the ground while scoring on it first five possessions en route to a 42-6 triumph in a non-conference battle. The Crimson Tide (2-0) showcased their offense in a 35-8 thrashing of Leominster in Week 1 and the other half of the Twin Cities got a look at the offensive machine Friday. Everett amassed 308 rushing yards and five long distance touchdown runs in the first half alone to take a 36-0 advantage into the break. "Give them credit because in my time here we've only played one other team like this, New Bedford way back in the day, and those are the two best teams we've ever seen." said Fitchburg coach Ray Cosenza. "Everett is a special team" The Crimson Tide were supposed to take a step back in 2005 after graduating quarterback Matt Nuzzo, who guided Everett to three Super Bowl titles and four Super Bowl appearances before departing for Brown Univeristy this fall. But overlooked was the fact that Everett returned nearly it's entire offensive line. Last night it was those veterans -- seniors Mike LaMontague, Peter Forte, Stanley St. Juate and Jeff Lopez and junor Walter Fallas (along with a little help from 6-foot-5, 250-pound senior tight end Richie Accime) -- that pushed Fitchburg all over the field in the team's first meeting since 1918. Everett didn't utilize more than three minutes on any of its first quarter drives, all of which resulted in touchdowns. Pat Deleon capped the game's opening drive with a 25-yard touch down run an d Jefry Enayo soon folled with a 19-yard touchdown jaunt. After Fitchburg (0-2) botched a punt attempt, Everett inherited a short field later in the first frame and freshman quaterback John Forte -- one of three quarterbacks employed by the Crimson Tide -- sprinted 29 yards for a 21-0 advantage. Rhandy Audate (40 yard touchedown run), Enayo (47 yard touchdown jaunt) and Pat Spenney (63 yard touchdown trot) each struck paydirt later for the Tide. "The offensive line is mostly veterans with six starters back out of seven," said Everett coach John DiBiaso. "That's what we were counting on to be our strengh this year and it has been." Fitchburg got its lone score when Josh Less reeled in a 40 yard touch down pass from sophomore quarterback Jeremy Kimber (7 for 15, 81 yards, TD, INT) on the opening possession of the third quarter.
