Rebecca was born on the planet Osiris, part of the former Republic of Andanari. She was the only child of Charity and Samuel Peters. Charity died in a shuttle accident when Rebecca was only 12 years old. Rebecca managed a mostly normal and happy childhood. She dreamed since a small child of being a VF Pilot and serving the Republic. Father is missing in action.
She does not talk about her past. You can tell that she is ex-military based on manner, skills, and air of command. About four years ago she showed up in this part of the world with a Osirisen VF. She got a job as a bartender to pay bills and start anew. She still does freelance protection in order to make ends meet. She has no current boy friend. She wears a locket around her neck with the picture of her last boy friend in it.
What is publicly know about the fall of the former Republic of Andanari? What public documents/records still survive? (birth and death records?} You're scores to hundreds of light years away from where
the Republic was. No records made it this far. Publicly known is that the Republic got swarmed under by the 'barbarians at the gates', for want of a better term.
The Republic of Andanari was around during the war 2 generations ago.
Fairly stable, only within the last 5-7 years did it start to fall apart. (It just took longer than most bits of civilization to fall apart
afterwards.)
Her father was in the military and flew in his father's old VF fighter. Rebecca wanted to go up with her dad since she was a young child. On his time off he would teach her to fly. This was one of her favorite things to do. It was quality time between her and her dad. She was always a dad's child.
At the age of 16 Rebecca followed in her father's and his father's and his father's foot steps and entered the Andanari military academy. It was there she learned tactics, hand to hand combat, leadership, and simple mechanic skills. She trained hard and became part of the elite flight cadre. Shortly before graduation her father was promoted into a desk job at Andanari military command head quarters. He gave the family VF to the next generation - Rebecca. She graduated at the top of her class and was given the rank of Lieutenant.
She was posted on the fringe of the Republic in order to help maintain its stability. She thought at the time that she was being punished for something. In retrospect, though, her father might have sent her there in hopes it would be safer. After about a year, she was given a 4 subordinate squad to command.
About 5 years ago the last shreds of the Republic fell. What started out as a multi system nation divided into individual systems and got swallowed up by scavengers. Things fell apart with no money, supplies and information. In a year the base was in danger of falling.
In short, things became a big mess towards the end, forcing her to go on her own in the back of beyond.
About 5 years ago, Becca was still posted as 2nd officer in the frontier outpost on the planet Cecilland. By this point the Republic was becoming divided. Out here on the frontier things were falling apart. Cut off from the home worlds, without pay and supplies, it became increasingly hard to keep both staff and mech in working condition. The crime rate sky rocketed. The planet attracted scavengers. Rebecca and her small group tried to maintain law and order, but this got harder and harder. One day while on patrol they were attacked by a group of Space Pirates. A fierce fire fight ensued. Becca's VF was hit with a large number of missiles. The bombardment took its toll on the VF; luckily most of the damage was taken by the combat armor and thruster pack, which was all but destroyed. The armor mostly saved the VF itself. Knocked out and badly hurt, she was left for dead and the ship destroyed due to the large amount of damage it took.
A day or so later a small merchant ship working for the Guild was passing by on a shipment run. Jonathan Hayes, Captain of the ship, investigated this area in hopes of finding something salvageable. With a lot of luck he happened to find the VF floating in the debris. He brought it aboard as salvage. Once onboard a more careful examination discovered that the pilot was still alive. Seeing the advantage to having a fully trained VF pilot in his debt, he and his family nursed Rebecca back to health on their home planet of Old Antica. Hayes family includes Jonathan (Nathan), Rosalyn (mother), Julia (young daughter), and Keith (older son.) She still is close with the family and goes over to visit when she can.
She started out as a bar keep to help pay her way until she and the ship were well enough to fly again. The Captain then helped her get a few jobs with the Guild. During her first run she proved herself and her abilities. She has since worked with the Guild to help pay for the fuel and upkeep of the VF.
She once returned to Cecilland to try to discover what happened to her father and friends, to no avail. She never found out what happened to her father but holds on to the hope that he is still out there somewhere. She still holds herself responsible for the loss of her men and the fall of her command. It haunts her still in the form of nightmares. She is hesitant to take command again. What if she takes command and it all happens again? What if the fall is somehow her fault? If she was a better leader maybe this would not have happened.
She has very strong military roots, and is loving, caring, and loyal - especially to those she cares about. She has been known to question military command and does not follow orders blindly.
She has no current boy friend. She is unlucky with love. She wears a locket around her neck with the picture of her last boy friend in it. He, like a large number of the old military, is MIA to date.
