"Clay" is a native of . As a child, he wandered the
plains and deserts looking for old machinery, which he had a knack for
repairing.
Background:
While he was off one one of these
trips, his parents, and most of his town, was wiped out by a raiding
group of Ss'tor. Afterwards, he joined a nearby monastery of the Order
of the Monkey King. He learned to meditate and their Martial Arts. His
'totem element' is earth.
The monastery was built into a small portion of a
series of tunnels that formed a deep labrynth in a mountain range. Many
of the other monks took long trips into these tunnels to meditate. Clay
wandered through them mainly to look for the bits of old technology
that were scattered through them. At the end of one tunnel, he found a
the machine that had carved the tunnels; an ancient engineering mecha,
abandoned in the spot where it had broken down. It took more than a
year to repair. The monks were most surprised when Clay returned from
his last 'meditation' run with a mech, but were quite willing to make
use of it's abilities to modify their mountain top retreat's layout, as
well as 'rent' it's services to the farmers and ranchers in the valleys
below.
While digging out a new drainage tunnel, Clay made
his next major discovery: a very old bio-research lab, filled with
bizarre machinery and bubbling tanks of glowing organic fluid. Each vat
contained an infant human in suspended animation. Unfortunately, the
tank's sonic diggers had damaged one of the tanks, spilling it's
occupant on the floor, where she coughed to life and started to cry. In
a panic, Clay rushed her to the monastery. The Abbott arranged for one
of the female monks to act as the child's nursemaid, and she was raised
by the order and named Kimiko. Clay grew to be very fond of the girl,
and they treated each other as brother & sister. He never told her
where she had been found, but everyone realized how unusual she was
when her superhuman abilities manifested themselves.
When Kimiko became old and restless enough, the
Abbott decided that it would be best for her to leave on a quest, both
to satisfy her spirit and to preserve the monastery's structural
integrity. Clay and his digger mech went with her.
Mech:
"Digger" tank: A human-designed mecha, with the appearance of a heavy,
treaded tank. Completely non sentient. A short, stout mech-body
protrudes from the top. It is primarily a support, not a combat
vehicle, with epoxy-guns for building bridges and walls, as well as a
dozer blade and jackhammer for earth moving. While capable of slow
flight and flotation through the use of outsized pontoons, it spends
most of it's time on it's durable treads. This mech's most unusual
asset are a set of powerful sonic bores on the front, allowing it to
tunnel through dirt and rock at suprising speed. It's only real weapon
is a set of missiles, tipped with sonic head that allow them to be
fired through ground. The mech is equipped with a periscope usable
through rock & solid, and seismic sensors.
