Caving Trip - Basswood Cave, VA

Description

Basswood Cave is on Nevin Davis' property, about a mile down the road from the BCCS homestead.
Went in at 11:50am.
Came out around 9:50pm.

I pulled a lot of buckets of rock
I went out twice:

at 2:15pm - for lunch and an ascender
at 5:15pm - to take the drill battery out to recharge

The rope to pull the bucket/sled was so cavered with mud that I couldn't get a grip to pull it when the bucket was full and heavy. I switched to using a hip belay for a while before I brought a handled ascender back in. The ascender helped tremendously.

I never crawled back into the dig area.

We stayed at Keith Wheeland's house, called "The Roost". Keith made pot roast dinner for us to have when we got back from the cave. Yum! (Scott Olsen and Jean ? were also staying at Keith's.)
