Lisa and I headed to VA for an expedition weekend with our BCCS friends. We drove up Friday evening, stopping in Burlington at the Tractor Supply to get Lisa a pair of wellies and then getting dinner at Panera Bread which is conveniently located at the same exit. We arrived at The Roost around 11pm. We stayed up with Keith for about an hour before heading to bed. [The Nittany grotto crew showed up around 12:30 or so. Nathan came back around 1am. Don't know when Brad and Phil got back.]
We got up Saturday morning, and Lisa made egg Mc's for a bunch of people. We headed over to The Homestead, arriving around 10am. (Missed the 9:45am target by a little bit, but we still waited around for about 20-30 minutes before getting moving towards the cave.) We were on a survey trip into Wishing Well with Nathan and Cynthia (from Nittany grotto).
We drove over, changed in the 15 degree cold, and were in the cave around 11am. We were the third of three teams in that day.
TBD.
Ended up with about 550' surveyed in 27 stations. Our survey was named "Hunky Dory", and we started by tying into station 8 of the "Kids Caving" survey that Natahn had been on the previous Sunday. Natahn was sketching, Lisa and Cynthia were reading instruments, and I was setting stations. I ended up writting "HD" a lot, and I eventually started thinking of ours as the "High Def" survey.
Cold, damp, and tired, we came out right at 9pm. It was actually a little warmer outside than when we went in -- a whopping 22 degrees -- but it felt very cold after being in the cave and coming out sweating from all the exertion of crawling and climbing to get out. We were very happy to be able to change in the landowner's (Missy and ??? Landrum) garage which was out of the wind and slightly warmer. Very civilized.
We swung by The Roost for a quick shower and change of clothes before heading over to The Marks' where they were hosting a party. We got there around 10pm, but Judy still had a couple a pizzas ready and we fell to the eating. There were stories from all present, and we got to watch a funny video (made from a slideshow) about the Gork, made by Nittany grotto members back in the day.
