Description

Good day of climbing with Lisa today. We were planning to climb at Moore's Wall, but we didn't get to bed at all early the night before and were grumpy getting up in the morning so decided to go with a closer trip to Roxboro.

It was so incredibly hot! Probably up to at least 95 degrees. We didn't end up climbing a lot. Lisa led two of the easy pitches on the north side of the Fortressto get practice leading and setting gear, and she did really, really well.

Later we set up a top rope on a Gimme a Snickers (5.8), and I started to get on it, but by that point I was hot and cranky and decided that I wasn't in the mood to fall off a route, especially one with sharp rock. Lisa was in agreement so instead we worked on practicing belay escapes for a while, using the rope we had setup.

Even with the heat, it was great to be outside. We saw lots of interesting fauna: lot of butterflies -- including the Hackberry Emperor that got on my hand and stayed there for more than 5 minutes as we walked in, a Diana Fritillary, and an American Snout -- a bull, some horses, cows, a small black snake, dragonflies, toads, a turtle, blue tailed skinks and other lizards, wasps, ticks, miscellaneous other birds and bugs.
