After work trip with just the two of us (on the water around 6:30pm). Water level was up from Tropical Storm Alberto the day before. Almost had to bag the trip because Lisa's sprayskirt grad loop broke off at the put-in, but we jury-rigged a strap so she could get out if needed. Got out in perfect time to get the car before it was locked in.

Beautiful spring day after a week of cold and rain. Thought we were on the upper Flat. Had 8-10 portages and 4-6 scrape-overs or limbo-unders. Another 6" lower, and we would have had a lot more portages. Not much whitewater until we joined the Flat. Took out at Harris Mill dam and got a ride to my car from the man who lives on river left.

Day was overcast with a high of 48. This was my first winter paddling trip. I wore my wetsuit, wool socks and booties, thermal shirt, splash jacket, Lisa's poggies, and was mostly warm enough. (My hands were cold by the time we took out.) I was the first of the 4 of us to flip and roll; it was while playing at the first or second rapid in the first section. Hit my roll, and came up with an ice cream headache.
