| Justin-Siena Alaskan Salmon Slayers (ASS) |
Aug 27 - Sept 1 2004 was spent doing some serious salmon fishing on the Kenai Peninsula
with EZ Limit's own Greg Brush. Months earlier the planning was put into place,
with Russ, Kel, Rich, and Mark
signing up for the adventure. This mini
High School reunion, partly taken as a celebration that we had all made it into our
40's without any jail time, was mainly intended to do one thing: take advantage of an
old friend (Greg) who had the wherewithall to spoil the crud out of us urban myths.
First, we had to learn how to be a fisherman: either look like a
moron,
or dress in that ever-effective
camouflage (Rich) or like a clown (Kel), but always remember to
have a good time.
It readily became apparent who in our group had no pride whatsoever. For example, Rich did not
catch this fish (Russ did); nor did he catch
this fish (Kelsey did). While some of the
photographs on these web pages are of Rich holding fish that he actually did catch, in general
one should not apply too much credibility to his pictures, and certainly not his stories
(Rich lies so much he grew horns out of his head).
In this regard, he is a true fisherman with the requisite big fishing tales ("fishermen
are born honest, but they get over it"). Here's a 4.25M MPEG video of
Rich losing a fish (OK, we'll quit picking on Rich
now).
Certainly the quality time spent with friends was nice, but coming home with almost 30
pounds (each) of Salmon fillets wasn't too bad, either. While that sounds like a lot (and
it is), that doesn't begin to accurately categorize the extraordinary salmon slaying that was going
on during this trip (I feel a horn coming on). Each day with Greg was not simply spent getting our (EZ) limit, but better yet
getting in about 8 hours of fishing with friends, with a lot of
catch and release going on. To say that this trip was successful
would be like saying Napa Valley produces some good table wine.
In between fishing, when not spending a relaxing evening at the humble
abode, we enjoyed a few excellent dinners with
Greg and his family. Greg's wife Sherri, the brains behind the biz, patiently
listened to our fishing stories with a gracious smile, although they were essentially the same
stories she has had to endure for the last 10 years (since there were kids present, we didn't
discuss the years 1978-1981). Greg's daughter's Kelsey (another fish slayer) and Kendra
(wind her up and watch her go!) are too good for Greg, but luckily life is always full of
generosity...
Click on a day, and enjoy the memories from an amazing trip. Thanks Greg!
