Day 2 ~ The Sophomore Class

"Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after."
~ Henry David Thoreau

Well, ole Hank Thoreau obviously had never been on a float plane in Alaska; nor had we, but that was going to be rectified today. Four grown men, who had all traveled far and wide...but somehow, adding water to the air transportation equation turned us into Sophomore's all over again. Our first trip on a de Havilland Otter DHC 3, which had just turned 50 years old, was a treat.

Our destination was the Big River Lake, which flanks the west side of the Cook Inlet; the location was gorgeous. We arrived well before any other fishergirliemen, and in no time at all us Salmon Slayers were at work (download a 7.5M MPEG Video of Russ at work). While we were getting our hands on fish, Rich was keeping his hands busy, too, as he's known to partake in on occasion...

Later in the day Russ caught a beauty that we all had to take pictures with while Kel, always the competitor, responded by catching a whale of his own.

We ended the day at a dry waterfall, with a pool of confused salmon wondering how they were going to get some action if they didn't make it up the dry rock bed. But these fish were safe; we had caught our (EZ) limit, and it was time to head home.
